Shoreline lariat necklace was inspired by the rugged Pembrokeshire coastline with its hidden coves, rock pools and crashing, foaming waves.
This beading tutorial is suitable for anyone with a little knowledge of beadweaving and is classed as intermediate level.
The methodical spiral rope stitch forms the basis of the lariat, it is then embellished to represent the foaming waves on one end and the rock pool anemones and starfish on the other.
There are two patterns to download, the main necklace and a separate starfish pattern.
The repetitive nature of the spiral rope brings its own rhythm which is relaxing to bead.
The embellishment however takes a bit more concentration!
I recommend a nylon beading thread such as KO or One G for the spiral rope and 6lb fireline in crystal for the starfish.
Size 12 beading needle for the majority of the design and a size 13 beading needle when finishing the starfish.
For a metre of rope you will need the following materials:
For the rope:
20g size 8 seed bead for the core
10g size 11 seed bead for outer part of rope
another 10g size 11 seed bead for outer part of rope in a shade lighter Than the first 10g.
approx 6g toho 3mm drop
For the waves: (in crystal and/or cream)
1g size 11 seed bead
1g size 11 seed bead
1g delica size 11
approx 20 x 3.4mm miyuki drop
For the anemones:
5 or 6 colours of size 11 seed beads light to dark
1 x 8mm pearl
1 x 5mm jump ring
20 x 4mm pearls
3 x 3mm pearls
I hope you enjoy making this necklace, there is a bead kit available should you prefer not to choose your own colours.
