  • Smologies #42: TREES with J. Casey Clapp
    Apr 13 2024

Do trees have feelings? How do they talk? Which trees can you use to make syrup? Do bananas really grow on trees? Possibly the world's most enthusiastic tree expert, J. Casey Clapp, explains what makes coastal redwoods the coolest trees, how roots communicate with each other, and why a tree is like a cup of tea. Plus: bonus guest appearance by our friends (and the trees’), fungi.

Love Alie

I first ‘met’ Alie on Forever35 pod and my fav murder pod when they had her share her hometown murder - I gave it a try for the ADHD episode and stuck around! Finally a science pod I enjoy and listen to and the Smologies are really great for the family -a benefit that they’re shorter, hold the kids attention longer and we can generally listen to in one car ride.

Fascinating!

Having grown up in Florida, near Marineland in St. Augustine, I love dolphins and this episode touched my inner child's curiosity. Taking the deep dive into this subject brought back memories of summer camps at Marineland, watching the dolphins for hours and imagining their conversations. Marineland is no more and now the dolphin center is focused on education rather than entertainment. These wonderful creatures deserve our respect and yes, they will rule the future water world with Kevin Costner as their court jester!! Thanks for another great interview Alie!

Perfection

Oleee Dad Von, is in fact, the best. This is the first podcast I decided to try out, and oh boy it’s a winner! Alie is hilarious and also incredibly intelligent, despite her endearing modesty. Her enthusiasm about every topic is infectious! You will learn so many strange and wonderful things. If you love science and enjoy laughing, this podcast is for you.
