As default I will post smaller items within the UK via Royal Mail First Class. For larger items I send via parcel force 2 day service within the UK.

Items to the USA and Canada normally takes between 10-14 working days, (that is 2 to 3 weeks) sometimes depending on what the item is and time of year, it will be quicker but can take longer during busy periods such as December. Smaller items are sent to the USA on a standard service, larger items such as pokers are sent on a tracked service.

Please double check your address, it is the buyers responsibility to make sure that the correct delivery address is used. I cannot be responsible for orders sent to the wrong address if it's listed as the shipping address.

Larger items such as Fire Companion Sets are sent via courier to the USA, Canada and elsewhere.

I am happy to send Worldwide, but contact me first for a quote. Any overseas purchasers would be responsible for any customs charges and/or taxes.

A lot of the items I have for sale on here are regular stock items so I can usually get them out to you within 3-5 working days. Some of the larger or personalized items are made to order, so can take longer, between 7-21 days, depending on my workload and the item ordered. Larger sculptural pieces can sometimes take longer. The personalized hearts with names and dates are quicker than this as I keep the hearts in stock so usually only have to engrave/stamp it with your details. Iron or Steel?

I am often asked whether the material I use is Iron or Steel. Well, Both really, so could suit both a Iron or Steel Anniversary, however, there are a few differences-

The material that I normally use is Mild Steel. Mild (or low carbon) steel consists of mostly iron- with approximately 0.05% to 0.25% carbon content with up to 0.4% manganese content. It is the modern equivalent of what is termed "wrought iron" which is actually a material that has given it's name to the style of forge work.

Wrought iron is an iron alloy with a very low carbon (less than 0.08%) It is a semi-fused mass of iron with fibrous slag inclusions (up to 2% consisting of silica) which gives it a "grain" resembling wood, so is a more pure form of iron, but it is no longer in mass commercial production due to the methods of manufacture which is why we now use 'Mild Steel' in it's place.

Although termed Mild Steel it's almost entirely made of iron. Steel for a steel anniversary would normally be a stainless or a high carbon tool steel (such as a knife that keeps it's edge) but both could be suitable for an Iron or Steel Anniversary

Care of Ironwork

Most of the smaller items I make for Home and Indoors are treated with Renaissance Wax as a finish. This is a conservation grade protective coating that will protect the ironwork from corrosion in a dry environment. Having said that, all ironwork in a wet/damp environment will start to rust.

Regular maintenance is sometimes required but this usually depends on the environment it is located. If your piece has started to rust, abrade with some fine wire wool, you can also purchase small tins of Renaissance Wax, which is recommended or apply either a paste furniture wax such as Briwax, or and Oil such as Jade Oil to protect it. When I apply wax to a piece it is done while the metal is warm so that the wax melts and gets into all the crevaces.

Outdoor pieces can be finished in a variety of ways, sculpture is often galvanized, and then patinated or painted, which will protect it for many, many years. Some sculpture I make is left to rust, which can look very attractive. This also needs maintenance once the piece has rusted, contrary to other advice that I have seen given, Rust is not a stable finish unless it is also treated with an oil, wax or lacquer to arrest the process and prevent it from rusting further. It does normally take a very long time for items to completely Rust away without any maintenace however. I have had some of my Forever Flowers in my garden, going on 12 years now that are rusty but in no way disintegrating!! (And I live a mile and a half from the salty sea!)
