Catch of the Day is a whimsical pattern that is designed to appear like a fish eating your foot! This cuff down pattern has a continuous scale pattern across the body of the fish, an eye socket so you know where to sew on the eyes (as well as the option to omit button eyes), fins, and curled lips!

This pattern is written under the assumption that you understand the basics of a sock. Though instructions are written in the pattern, I am not writing why things are done. This pattern is recommended for advanced knitters, or intermediate knitters who are willing to stretch their skills. Not recommended for beginners.

This pattern may be difficult, please approach it as such. Knit cuff down, heel flap heel, twisted rib decrease toe, knit separately and attached fins.

Please Note: Fish Lips Kiss Heel by Sox Therapist would be a wonderful substitution if you do not want to work a heel flap!

Sizes in Pattern:
Child’s Large/Woman’s Small (approximately women’s shoe size US 5-7)
Woman’s Medium (approximately women’s shoe size US 7.5-9)
Woman’s Large/Men’s Small (approximately women’s shoe size US 9.5-10)

Skills Needed:
• Short rows
• Knitting twisted knit stitches

Materials Needed:
• Color A: 350-460 yards sock weight yarn
o (Pattern used Red Heart’s Stardust in Coral)
• Color B: 50-100 yards sock weight yarn
o (Pattern used Knitpick’s Stroll Glimmer in Blush)
• Color C: 50 yards sock weight yarn
o (Pattern used Knitpick’s Stroll in Pucker)
• (4) 5/8th inch buttons
• (4) US1DPN
• (4) US2DPN
• Tapestry/Yarn Needle

Gauge:
Stockinette Stitch on US 2s:
8 stitches & 10 rows in 1”
(Gauge is not crucial to this pattern, and a slightly larger gauge will be fine. I’d recommend against any gauge smaller than this though.)

Lately, I’ve had a huge issue with my images being stolen. Many sellers, both independent and across various big name sites (including here on Etsy) have stolen my pictures and are using them to sell whatever fraudulent products they are selling.

Unless the listing is under my name, “Emma Bermudez Designs,” the images are being used in violation of copyright law.

I have been working diligently to have these listings removed.

My pictures will never be genuinely used to advertise finished products. Please be cautious with listings like those.

I’m not affiliated with them, they committed copyright infringement. Please contact the host of the site that you purchased the object from and inform them of the issue.

All my patterns are primarily or entirely written. Occasionally, I’ll have photos to demonstrate a technique or how something should be done. However, this does not occur in all patterns, and is listed in the description when it does occur.

Some patterns have charts. This is stated in the description of that listing.

If something is not expressly stated in the description, please do not assume it will occur.

Short answer: They’ve stolen my pictures and their listings appear faster than I can report.

Long answer: I don’t sell socks. I sell knitting patterns. There are a lot of opportunistic unscrupulous shops who have taken my pictures and are using them to misrepresent the items they’re selling. You’re not going to get the socks in the pictures.

Two of the yarns I used have been discontinued. One of the yarns cost $40 to knit the socks - that they’re selling for $20.

I am not affiliated with these stores. My product photos have been stolen.

As a first time knitting project ever, I‘m quite amazed that I accomplished this! Just the looks of the fish make me laugh, so the commitment was absolutely worth it. A few things that I learned: this pattern isn’t an instruction made for beginners, which is absolutely okay. If you‘re not used to knitting, watch some youtube videos about the principles of knitting a sock (joining in rounds, what‘s an increase/decrease, the general principles of each part of a sock…) and then try out the pattern. Other than that it‘s absolutely possible if you give it a try. The pattern also contains the authors mail-adress for when you have questions, and she wrote me back instantly when I was troubling with the pattern. Thanks again for the help!
