Hi you great Soul, my name is Ava and I warmly welcome you to my shop.
Here you can find ethically sourced and handcrafted products as well as shamanic handicrafts that directly support indigenous people and cultures in Latin America.
If you had told me two years ago that I have an online shop today, I would probably have looked at you unbelievably. So how did it come about?
Let me take you on my journey ...
Let me take you into my world ...
The time I spent in Latin America left a lasting mark on me. Everything started with cacao first. A plant that can open the heart, connect and improve our mood in our hectic everyday life. The cacao energy supports you in a gentle existence and can also work on a deeper level - if you allow...
With a huge cup of cacao you not only do yourself something good, you also support the indigenous women's collective Ruk'u'x' Ulew [Roo-Koosh-Ouh-Leh-Ou] from Guatemala, who produce this delicious, ceremonial cacao. The cacao is sourced from a family of small farmers in the Alta Verapaz region and processed in San Marcos La Laguna, on the shores of the magical Lake Atitlán.
Each bean is fermented, sun-dried, lightly roasted, and peeled by hand. This is how the unmistakable, nourishing and full taste of cacao is created. Every step is carried out with love, joy and careful handwork. The cacao is ground and freshly packed in small batches and is now enjoyed all over the world.
Ruk'u'x' Ulew was founded in 2016 by Cecilia, an indigenous Maya woman and mother of three children. She was born and raised in San Marcos La Laguna on Lake Atitlán. I feel so honoured and appreciate it very much to be able to work with her. She has such a big heart, always a smile for you and makes the best cup full of love and cacao in the world! With her 15 wonderful women work in the collective!
It quickly became clear to me that I wanted to support the warm people and their Maya culture even more. The Guatemalan range expanded to include other products, such as traditionally handcrafted maguey bags made from the leaf fibers of the agave.
Just as I was impressed by the people and the culture in Guatemala, the country of Peru with its cheerful people, shamanic traditions and hand-woven fabrics took my breath away.
The shamanic cosmology of the Andes in southern Peru still shapes the weavings that are traditionally made on the loom. They are embroidered with traditional symbols and geometric patterns of Andean cosmology such as coca leaves, the potato flower, animals such as the condor or sacred mountains, lagoons and stars. These traditional symbols are considered sacred and have been passed down from generation to generation in the Andean indigenous peoples. The alpaca and sheep wool is dyed exclusively with natural plant dyes and pigments.
When I first met Hilaria, the weaver behind these wonderful pieces, I knew straight away what a kind hearted soul she is. In addition, a talented weaver who knows how to make unique fabrics, altar cloths, mesa cloths and huatanas (the sweet pearl ribbons). Thank you Hilaria for sharing your tradition with us!
In times like these, which have been going on since the beginning of 2020, it has become even more important to be able to provide people with a global platform so that they are not dependent on local tourism.
The proceeds go directly to the artisans to ensure that they get a good income from the products that I offer in my shop. This benefits the entire community, its development and education.
My vision is to have a direct connection from the source with every person or raw material involved in the production. In this way I can guarantee that the products and materials are traded ethically, fairly, ecologically and sustainably.
I concentrate on natural materials and ingredients and would like to combine traditional craftsmanship and ancient skills with conscious and sustainable, ethical, ecological people. With these products I would like to incorporate more awareness of the traditional handicrafts, mostly handed down over many generations, into our hectic everyday life.
I hope I was able to give you a small but fine insight into the motivation with which this shop was born into the world and is lovingly and carefully managed and developed by me. With love, respect and humility towards the people who have preserved their culture and traditions and now share them with us. Muchas gracias!
Thank you for your support, I and all the artisan's appreciate that so, so much.
Lots of blessings and love!
