This pattern would have been 5 stars for me if a gauge swatch was included. My bag ended up quite a bit smaller than expected, despite using the materials the pattern suggested. It is a really cute bag and I will absolutely use this pattern again with a larger hook to make a full-sized market bag. Due to the size, I did forgo the strap instructions and just added little bamboo handles instead. Overall, the bag I ended up making is still very cute and I really like this pattern so I will still highly recommend it to others.

The pattern makes a lovely bag and while it is easy to follow, there is no gauge. I used a 4.5mm hook with a worsted weight cotton (the pattern states any worsted weight cotton can be used) and worked until row 14. The bag was almost 2” more narrow than the finished size mentioned in the pattern. For a market bag, it was just too small. I frogged the whole thing and bumped my hook up to a 6mm. The bag is now about an inch wider than the finished size should be. I’m not going to spend more time frogging it out and using a different size hook. Having the bag a bit bigger is definitely better than much smaller! Simply adding a gauge to the pattern would have earned this pattern 5 stars because a gauge swatch is easier to make to determine where I need to go with the hook size than frogging my work.
