Air France UK

About Air France

Like other national carriers, such as British Airways, Air France sells many of its flight tickets based on a reputation for a high level of customer service. The airline runs a frequent flyer programme known as Flying Blue and its main bases of operation are in Paris. The two principal hubs it uses are Charles de Gaulle and Orly Airport, the latter also being the home of Air Caraibes, another French air operator which flies to similar destinations. Many of Air France's other services run from Lyon, Marseilles, Bordeaux and Nice. Some codeshare operations with the airline are run by HOP! and Air Corsica, both of which are subsidiaries. As well as flying a large number of Boeing 777-300ER aeroplanes as a part of its fleet, Air France has over 30 Airbus A319-100s and a similar number of Airbus A320-200s. The airline as a whole employs over 84,000 permanent staff members, making it the largest operator in Europe and a leading global player in the passenger jet industry. This large size is partly down to the fact that Air France successfully merged with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines in 2004. Officially, therefore, Air France is known as Air France-KLM but few people use its proper title. There are over 200 destinations around the world that Air France flies to. The business was founded in 1933 and it now generates a revenue that exceeds 15 million euros per annum.

How do I check in online with Air France?

Air France's online check-in procedure is similar to many other major air operators, such as Lufthansa. Passengers can start using the online check-in system from up to 30 hours prior to their flight time. The carrier provides two options for its passengers to check-in ahead of arriving at the terminal building. The first is via Air France's own website. The second is via its mobile app which has been developed for a number of different operating systems. All that is needed to check-in over the internet is the reservation number that would have been issued when the ticket was purchased. Frequent flyers can also enter their Flying Blue number. Cancelling an on-line check-in follows the same process and this can be done at any time up to the check-in deadline.

What is my checked baggage allowance on Air France?

The Air France baggage policy applies even if the service is being run by another air operator. In other words, if your flight number is an Air France one, then you must adhere to these rules. Checked baggage must not exceed 158 cm in any dimension. For most modern cases, this means its vertical height including its wheels and carry handle. 23 kg is the maximum weight of any checked baggage item that will go into the hold of the aircraft for holders of economy class tickets. This is not the case when it comes to Premium Economy or Business tickets where 32 kg are permissible. Economy ticket holders who have bags over 23 kg must pay an additional fee at the airport which varies according to the route being taken. No economy ticket holder may check a bag into the hold if it exceeds 32 kg Additional checked bags are allowed on Air France services, but these must be booked in advance.

What hand luggage can I take on an Air France?

Like other airlines, the Air France hand luggage allowance is limited. No bag may be bigger than 55 cm x 35 cm x 25 cm including external pockets and handles. However, more than one bag is allowed, plus an accessory, such as a laptop or handbag. The rules on the number of bags that are permitted as hand luggage vary according to the ticket type, but Air France has produced an online calculator so passengers can confirm in advance that what they intend taking on board is permissible. Duty-free items that have been purchased in the departure lounge of the airport do not count as hand luggage and these can be taken aboard with you. Furthermore, Air France does not consider an umbrella to constitute part of its hand luggage allowance and these can be carried on as well. Liquid containers must be carried on board in a clear plastic bag and not exceed 100 ml, with a total of one litre of liquid per bag. Finally, it is worth noting that there is an upper limit to the weight of any combination of hand luggage passengers can take with them into the cabin. This is currently set at 12 kg for economy class travellers.

Where does Air France fly from?

Air France routes cover the globe, but are especially noticeable to Francophone countries such as Cameroon, Haiti, Guadeloupe, Mauritius and the Seychelles. In addition, the national flight operator of France has plenty of services to destinations in Europe, including many that run from UK air hubs. Common routes include:

I can't recommend China Eastern enough. They used to have a dodgy reputation but the last couple of years have seen a huge improvement. Business class cabins are spacious in the herringbone layout which means you don't find yourself staring at someone else's feet the food is splendid and even the wine choice perfectly adequate. Cabin crew all speak decent English too. The trick at the lounge in Shanghai is to head upstairs where it is much quieter.
