Forced to close my children’s music company due to The Covid pandemic, I used my lifelong passion for sewing to be part of the national team of home sewers making scrubs for the Nhs. For months I sewed non stop ( except for the odd sleep) & made hundreds of scrubs, hospital gowns and face masks for the paediatric wards at my local hospital where, before lockdown I volunteered as the visiting music specialist bringing guitar, singing & music fun to the children on the wards & in the hospital school.
My links to the nurses & doctors gave me a real insight into the best shape, fit and requirements of masks. Obviously home made fabric masks are no replacement for hospital grade masks but they are a welcome alternative for the nurses and doctors to wear when travelling to & from work & also for giving to children who are visiting as outpatients to wear, saving on hospital ones desperately needed elsewhere.
Mid-summer 2020 the need for homemade scrubs ceased , but masks did not & so I had time to set up my Etsy shop and it has been super successful. For every mask I sold, I made another and donated it to the nhs, foodbanks, pet rescue charities etc. Having piles of beautiful pet inspired fabric it was a natural progression to start making pet bandanas and bowties and they are super popular. Well into 2022, live music has started and my children's music business is back in full swing. But I still love sewing and just can't stop making gorgeous bowties and bandanas for doggies, moggies, pot-bellied piggies and their pet owners.
