Summary

Brilliance can be deadly....

When Detective Cormac Reilly's girlfriend, Emma, stumbles across the victim of a hit-and-run early one morning, he is first on the scene of a murder that would otherwise never have been assigned to him.

The dead girl is carrying an ID, that of Carline Darcy, heir apparent to Darcy Therapeutics, Ireland's most successful pharmaceutical company. Darcy Therapeutics has a finger in every pie, from sponsoring university research facilities to funding political parties to philanthropy - it has funded Emma's own groundbreaking research. The investigation into Carline's death promises to be high profile and high pressure.

As Cormac investigates, evidence mounts that the death is linked to a Darcy laboratory and, increasingly, to Emma herself. Cormac is sure she couldn't be involved, but how well does he really know her? After all, this isn't the first time Emma's been accused of murder....

love this new Irish crime writer

A compelling protagonist, a richly layered plot , a great narrator - and you can't go wrong with several hours spent with Irish accents!

As good as expected.

I knew the”why”quite early on but that doesn’t detract from the story, I like it when we know something the characters don’t know and then watch them building to that understanding. Although, maybe it’s me. People hate watching films with me! Either way, there are characters to love and to dislike. And again the writing and narration were excellent.

Excellent read

Excellent compulsive read /listen.
The story line and how it was written is superb
I felt I got right inside the story became totally immersed in it ... Those familiar places in Galway , the rain and drizzle the wind howling outside
The suspense of the story how it was narrated by Aoife , imitating all those accents ...that beautiful Galway lilt , the posh “potatoe in the mouth “Dublin accent and the falseness that is part of it .
A Brillant read

Compelling

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The performance was a pleasure to listen to and having visited Galway and the university campus, I could actually imagine I was there. Believable characters with a very plausible plot.

Amazing book!

I regret giving some previous novels 5/5 now. Dervla McTiernan is brilliant. Awaiting next novel.

Excellent plot

Brilliant narration and well written story. Keeps one's attention all the way through. I like the fact that it's based in Ireland and getting to know the different cities.
