Lovely hotel in a fantastic location just behind the minster, the only down side was we only stayed one night, and this was a Monday so the restaurant was closed, but we will rectify this next time we stay. All the staff are excellent, very friendly, beautiful gardens straight out to the city walls, and private parking - very useful in York centre. Thank you we look forward to visiting again

What a special hotel we found in Gray's Court. We stayed in the Edwards Room, a split level room with beautiful en suite. The copper bath was the highlight, with a TV to watch whilst bathing. The staff at Gray's Court are attentive and anticipate your every need. Breakfast was lovely with a short menu that we found offered plenty of choice. The building itself is just beautiful and with access to the walls after midday it was lovely to walk through the stunning garden. There was also a choice of communal spaces in the hotel in which to sit, read, chat and enjoy a drink.

A wonderfully atmospheric hotel. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is just full of history with a fabulous wood panelled long gallery. The bathroom was modern and up to date with lovely complementary clarins bath products. The staff could not have been more friendly and attentive. Left with complementary fruit flap jack for our journey home. Looking forward to staying again.

Cancellation policy I tried to cancel 6 days before the booking because one of my party was ill They said I couldn’t because they needed to tell them 7 da s before. Cost me almost £400 for nothing If you book here please ensure you don’t have unexpected emergencies within a week of your visit DISGRACEFUL

I’ve just returned from 2 nights at Grays Court Hotel for my birthday. When we arrived there were parking spots available only to guests which was great. The entrance is beautiful, the whole outside of the building is stunning. The welcome we received was very warm and friendly from a lady whose name I wish I’d caught. She’s a great host and very good at her job. She escorted us to our room (Elizabeth Gray) on route we learned a bit about the building’s history and how things worked at the hotel. The room was fab, huge windows, big comfy bed and antique furniture. Good sized bathroom. We unpacked and sat with a cup of coffee. It’s very quiet, the walls are thick and the only thing we could hear were the bells from the minster which was lovely. We explored a bit and then went for dinner. Dinner was an exotic taster menu, the service was really top notch. My husband and I have never experienced fine dining, and we both enjoyed the anticipation of it all. So much love and effort went into every dish, the standouts for me were the treacle bread, the monkfish (the sauce was unreal) the Venison and the apple desert, I wish I could have it as a large pudding, it’s possible the tastiest thing I’ve eaten and I can’t remember what was in there 😭. The servers knew every detail about the food and were so professional. Another member of staff whose name I don’t know (because I’m useless) curly red hair, was wonderful, so polite and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast staff were lovely, and quickly realised we eat too much toast and kept bringing us top ups. Breakfast was also flawless, my husband commented that it’s the best English breakfast he’s eaten. Overall a really great experience. Well needed escapism from our NHS jobs and parenting a mad (but cute) toddler. We will certainly be back.

Wonderful historic building hidden away close to York Minster the perfect retreat from the cold winter weather. Welcoming staff, warm and cosy atmosphere, lovely room and delicious breakfast. We wished we could stay for longer than one night and hope to return soon.

I went for Sunday lunch here with my friend and it was absolutely delicious. We both had the parfait to start which was really lovely served with a mini brioche loaf and then we both had the roast pork Sunday lunch. This was served with the MOST amazing roast potatoes which were the BEST! It was also served with truffle cauliflower cheese, fresh greens, Yorkshire pudding and veg. I had a lovely glass of rose Cote de Provence wine, which washed things down very well! Would highly recommend! Next time, I think my friend and I would share a starter and then share a dessert as we missed out on dessert as we were a little too full! That's only because the roast was amazing. The dessert menu looked amazing!

Saw hotel on our walk around the city walls and planned visit for drinks. Poor greeting and were told no more walk ins - although place was empty. We had planned to share a bottle of champagne with a view to booking a return stay, but will be looking elsewhere
