A toy pelican with a beak full of fish!
His beak shuts to stop them escaping (and getting lost in the toy box).
He is inspired by the wonderful Australian pelicans with their splendid black and white feathers.

Knitted flat on 3.5 mm (US 4) straight needles, the pattern includes instructions for 3 different fish (for a varied diet).
There are plenty of photos to show how to make this toy.

The sample is made in 8 ply/DK yarn and measures 21 cms / 8” from top of head to feet and 32 cms /12.5” beak to tail, but you could use worsted or 12 ply and make a bigger toy.
It takes approx. these amounts to make this toy in 8 ply/DK:
white x 60 gms
pale pink x 20 gms
black x 35 gms
grey x 10 gms
small amount yellow
small amounts of yellow, grey, orange, black, white for fish (optional – choose any colours you like)
You also need 4 chenille sticks to stiffen his beak, 1 cm / 1/2” triangle of velcro, lockable stitch markers.
