What is this standard about?
The BS 8489 series of standards grew out of Drafts for Development (DD) and provides essential guidance to those involved in fire safety. BS 8489-7 outlines specifications for watermist systems for the protection of low hazard occupancies as defined in BS 8489-1 and is intended to be read in conjunction with that standard which looks at the design and installation of watermist systems.

Why should you use this standard?
The BS 8489 series gives criteria for testing the performance of fixed watermist systems for specific industrial and commercial hazards, in order to protect both life and property. The requirements given in this part of BS 8489 are applicable to ceiling heights up to 5m.
The BS 8489 series uses a structured approach to the selection, application and deployment of watermist systems in buildings. It assists the fire engineering community in formulating fire-fighting strategies for the protection of buildings and complements the guidance provided in BS 5306-0 Fire protection installations and equipment on premises.
