  Our Christmas stay was a glorious break that we both needed and our two dog's were also very comfortable and enjoyed giving the sheep a stare through the windows. Clean, comfortable and great views, will recommend to all our family and friends.

  It is such a comfortable warm cottage and perfect for two people and a dog! We really appreciated the lovely cake when we arrived and the logs too. If I have one criticism the shower head was black and needed a clean. Apart from that the cottage was spotless. We loved Northumberland and a week was not long enough to see everything so we will definitely be back.

  We loved the view across the fields and those big Northumberland skies. The Bothy was spotlessly clean and we were provided with plenty of towels and other items. It was great to have a secure area outside where our dogs could roam freely. Overall we had a great time and offer our thanks to the friendly and welcoming owners.

  It was a perfect location for touring the Northumbrian coastline. The owners were only next door, but left us in peace but were there if a problem arose which it didn’t. The cottage had everything you could need to have a home from home experience and I’m sure we will return in the future.

  Useful to have manual available to work out how to operate oven! Quiet and peaceful if you don't mind sheep. EBI cushions on dining table chairs were the tie on kind, with a bit more padding as well. small sharp paring knife would be good.

• "We loved our stay at The Bothy."

  If you are after a peaceful time slightly off the beaten track, then this is the place for you. A good sized property for 2 people, upstairs and downstairs bathrooms, really good shower, warm and cosy, great for a dog (enclosed garden and great farm tracks), and super tv. Yes, the kitchen area is small but it's well equipped. No phone signal, but the wi-fi is fine for using What's app etc. But the best part of the property is the outlook from the two very comfy chairs overlooking the countryside (where the dining table is on the photos). And sitting outside when warm enough. Re. location, close enough to the wonderful beaches and close enough to the hills for hiking. Visits to Floors Castle at Kelso and the Distillery at Wooler are highly recommended. Plus there are plenty of good places to eat nearby. Chris and Steve are veery helpful but never intrusive hosts. We have already booked for 2025.

  It is light and airy, with wonderful views over the countryside, and there is plenty of outside space. It's location is ideal for exploring north Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. The village of Lowick is within walking distance, down a quiet lane. Lowick has a lovely local shop and two pubs, both serving good food and are dog friendly. The owners of The Bothy live next door and we received a warm welcome. They advised that they were happy to help if we needed anything. Otherwise, they left us to enjoy our holiday without intrusion, which was perfect.

• "The Bothy is lovely comfortable and clean, the property facilities could be improved by providing a small freezer to enable better food storage as eating out is quite limited locally especially as one of us is vegan."

  We had an issue with the kitchen tap not working properly and hotwater being tricky to work out. The hosts did what they could to fix the problem. The hosts were helpful and available but respected our privacy.

• "This place is a little gem!"

  Set adjacent to the owners house (but we hardly saw them) and a small number of cottages. So peaceful. The cottage was perfect size for the two of us and our dog. The furniture is set out different to the pictures ( much better in our opinion). The 2 armchairs looking out of the front window on a morning watching the birds was just lovely while we had our first cup of tea. The table in the middle seemed just the right place and the sofa facing the tv. WiFi was a godsend as the phone signal was very poor. We had everything we needed in the kitchen. The complimentary eggs and cake were also very much appreciated ( and delicious) . We were also happy to see decent coffee and tea had been supplied. Another big bonus - the owners didn’t scrimp on supply of loo rolls (one of our pet hates). Our border collie loved watching the 3 sheep through the garden fence. There was good dog walking straight from the door and the cottage was within easy driving distance of all the Northumberland coast villages and towns ( including Holy Island). All in all a 5 star stay. No issues at all and we very much hope to visit again at some point in the future. Thanks for a fabulous weekend stay x

• "Super stay , great location close to Northumbria Coast and so easy to get to."

  Weather was very wet when we visited so spent plenty of time inside, clean and warm with lots to do - we watched the Deer, Pheasants, Heron etc.We had our dog with us and there are walks literally on the doorstep. Good local facilities and tried local pubs and the visiting chip van too ! The cottage is frequently booked out , so felt lucky to get a few days here , will try and visit again :)

  So many thoughtful things lemon drizzle cake on arrival, dog bowl, dog towels, poo bags all there even though we didn't use them. Warm and so pretty with the daffodils on table can not fault it. Nice pub The Black Bull nearby that allows dogs. Would definitely book again.

• "This little cottage is for a couple wouldn’t suit children."

  It’s dog friendly with lovely walks near by. The beaches although amazing are a car ride away. The owners are dog happy and have their own and live on site. They maintain the Bothy very well but the cottage does not have a dishwasher. It does however have a log burner and an ample supply of free range eggs from the owner who has her own chickens. Overall if your willing to travel to do your sight seeing daily (and food shop) it is a delightful quiet haven away from it all with beautiful scenery.

  The setting was perfect and peaceful but also handy for the wider area. The hosts had thought of everything including towels and water bowl for the dogs. The Bothy was warm (wood burning Stove) and the the welcome cake was much appreciated. It was a pleasant stay and we will be back again. Just to mention the black bull pub has nice food when we tried it.

  Beautiful view from the bay window. Very relaxing! Bed was comfortable & the log burner was a lovely feature. The only negatives were the plain glass windows in the upstairs bathroom & the bedroom. Some kind of blind is definitely needed. Overall, a lovely place to stay if relaxation and getting away from it all is required.

• "We had a wonderful stay."

  Greeted with cake and fresh eggs, we made ourselves at home right away and got into some heavy-duty relaxation. We spent every morning walking our dogs on along sections of the coast, then went to one of many beautiful tourist attractions (castles, gardens, islands and towns) before going back to The Bothy to just read with a cup of tea in front of the big window to take in the view. On occasion we went out to the Cheviots at night to look at the stars. Everything was just perfect.

• "The Bothy is a lovely, comfortable converted barn that manages to be both cosy and spacious."

  It is situated in a gorgeous part of the country, and has glorious views from the outside seating area (including at night: the starlight on a cloudless night is breath-taking). It is very well-equipped with everything a visitor needs for a relaxing base for a holiday in Northumberland - the owners have really thought of everything (including the provision of welcoming cake, and fresh eggs). Tall people (I am 6ft 2) will need to get used to the low beams in the bathroom - the trick is to open the door fully - but this is quickly learnt, and posed no problems for me. 10 minutes from Berwick-upon-Tweed and the Ford & Etal Estate, half-an-hour from Alnwick, Lindisfarne, Seahouses, the Flodden Field battle site, Cragside House ... and countless other historic and natural attractions. I thoroughly enjoyed my fortnight at The Bothy, and shall certainly use this as a base for my next holiday in Northumberland.

  The owners have gone to a lot of trouble to make the property attractive. The setting is restful whilst also being convenient for visits to such places as Holy Island, Berwick, Bamburgh etc. If you are looking for somewhere to wind down and relax the Bothy is ideal. 5 star.

  We found 'the bothy' well-equipped, beautifully furnished and were taken with the finishing touches such as the fresh flowers and the cake and tea upon arrival. The fresh eggs made a cracking breakfast with our 'stottie' from the Lowick local store. We loved our tech free evenings sat in front of the windows overlooking the fields of gold awaiting the visit from the robin and the troop of chickens ably led by 'billiy' (our name) the black cockerel. We would definitely recommend 'the bothy' not only as a peaceful getaway but also as the perfect location to explore the stunning coastline and countryside of this part of Northumberland.

  The Bothy is a lovely compact property overlooking fields. You felt there was nothing else around but the owner's property was to the side, but did not distract from you feeling very secluded. Loved watching the cockerel and hens walking about the grounds and the own flying around at certain times in the fields. Would recommend this property if you want a relaxing and very convenient property for visits to the Farne Islands, Holy Island and so many other beautiful places. Hopefully will go back one day.

• "The property is a barn conversion which which has been very cleverly done."

  Although the basic footprint of the property is small, the interior is deceptively spacious with plenty of room due to the very clever use of space. It is exceptionally well appointed with a very high level of cleanliness and wonderfully cosy on an evening. Although on a working farm we had a very peaceful, quiet week. Local people are very friendly and the big Northumberland skies are breathtaking on a clear night. A superb getaway.

  Cosy and clean and our little dog was immediately at home too. The owners are very nice and we can see why the cottage is booked up most of the time. Close to Berwick, Bamber and Seahouses days out were great and the beaches wonderful. I would ask that a pay phone or WiFi be considered in the future, as no signal in the cottage. Sometimes families need to contact in emergencies. Next time I will take my hairdryer ! But overall excellent, excellent, excellent!!!

  Great views nice to have binoculars and bird watching books provided in cottage & bird feeders outside, we enjoyed watching the horse in the field beside the Bothy. Home made cake on arrival was the start of a very pleasant break .

  It was vitally important to be able to find somewhere he was as welcome as us. Once we'd got over the "separation anxiety" of not having internet access we enjoyed the freedom of not being bothered by it. The lack of a decent mobile signal is perhaps more of a handicap and although this is probably beyond the owners' control perhaps it should be pointed out to potential occupants. The property is well described and very well equipped and the "welcome cake" on arrival was an unexpected but very well received surprise! The are abounds with walks, beaches and history and there's no reason for anyone to lack entertainment in some form. We loved the area, having little knowledge of it, and we'll definitely be back!

  !! Stunning cottage if you want peace and quiet this is the cottage for you or if your sight seeing located in an ideal spot 5 minutes from the A1 with Berwick upon tweed 10 minutes away and Alnwick only 30 minutes to your south.

• "This was the best place i have ever stayed in, it was roomy, excellent view from a large low window over the countryside and very quiet and peaceful although other houses around to give a feeling of security, the garden was enclosed so our dog could wander around, and could take the dog walks along two tracks from the cottage, a dry barn to park the car in."

  not too far from the A1 road, so you could get quickly up the A1 to places you wanted to visit. the owner was friendly and helpful, our only fault was no internet .

• "We chose the week that the 'Beast from the East arrived."

  With blizzards & snow drifts up to 6ft we were cut off from the outside world for 3 days. The Bothy kept us dry & warm while Mrs Betts kept us fed and informed of local conditions. Under difficult weather conditions we could not asked for more, so big thanks go to Mrs Betts and to the local farmers for clearing the roads.

• "This is one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in - clean, comfortable, warm and in a great rural location."

  It is an ideal base for anyone with a dog or two and keen to explore the Northumberland coast. The only very minor quibble was over the adequacy of some of the cooking inventory but overall we would wholeheartedly recommend it. Comments in the visitors book indicate that other tenants have been similarly well pleased.

• "What a wonderful cosy retreat the Bothy is; tucked away from life's general madness."

  The cottage, a converted barn, is a perfect home from home. There was only one tiny issue: no wifi! Oh well, not the end of the world. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we will certainly return. Northumberland lived up to its reputation of a place of outstanding natural beauty and completely blew us away!

• "The cottage and its setting is absolutely perfect, especially if you have dogs."

  Chris the owner, who lives next door is always at hand with advice and help. The facilities are great and Chris owns a lot of the land around and does not keep any livestock, hence you can just let your dogs out to roam, safe in the knowledge that they are not going to harm livestock and tge river and fences will stop them running off. A beautiful little cottage, great walks around, we will be back.

• "It was in a perfect location for those who want to escape to the country."

  We had not been to Northumbria before so it was great to be close to many great attractions such as Lindisfarne, many castles, pretty towns, walks and National Trust properties. We did not have time to see everything so we will be back. The weather was hot and sunny beating all our expectations. Also the beaches were fab. The Bothy was comfortable and perfect for us.
