Why choose Norwegian Cruise Line

NCL is popular among adults and children alike – partly due to the line's extensive array of amenities which include waterparks, virtual-reality gaming, and go-kart racing.

Entertainment is another highlight of an NCL cruise. Expect hit Broadway shows such as Kinky Boots and The Choir of Man which invariably delight audiences.

However, while NCL’s modern ships have been designed to offer something for everyone, that doesn't mean they appeal to all – particularly those who value their space and peace and quiet.

While NCL offers a number of complimentary restaurants, budget-conscious passengers should be aware of extra charges as not all of the facilities onboard are free of charge.

Cruising with Norwegian Cruise Line

The cruise line launched its first mega-ship in 2010, the 4,100-passenger Norwegian Epic (once the third largest cruise ship in the world), and has since launched six more in the Breakaway and Breakaway-Plus classes.

Most recently, NCL launched Norwegian Prima – the first of six sister ships to be rolled out by 2027. Space is paramount onboard Prima: according to NCL, there is more than 1,000 cubic feet per guest.

The Miami-based cruise line has a "freestyle cruising" philosophy. Translation? NCL is all about offering its passengers freedom of choice and flexibility when it comes to their cruise holiday. Dine when you choose, and dress as you please.

To this end, NCL offers one of the most extensive selections of dining and entertainment venues on board its ships, meaning passengers have their pick when it comes to when and where they want to eat each day; and what they choose to do to keep themselves entertained.

Who should travel

Norwegian Cruise Lines' laidback cruising style is well-suited to passengers who don't like to have their cruise holiday mapped out for them.

Instead, cruises have been designed for passengers who value choice and flexibility, hence why the line's ships offer so much choice.

As the line that introduced go-kart racing at sea, you can be sure Norwegian is all about delivering fun to its passengers, who are of all ages. That being said, it’s not surprising that with thrilling activities such as laser tag and immersive VR experiences, NCL attracts a large number of families.

Norwegian is also known for its award-winning solo cruises, with special single cabins and reduced single supplements on board its ships.

Destinations

Ocean-going Norwegian Cruise Line sails to destinations all over the world including Asia, Africa, Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, Bahamas, Canada and New England, the Caribbean, Hawaii, the Mediterranean, Mexico Riviera, Northern Europe, the Panama Canal, South America, and the Pacific Coast in addition to offering transatlantic cruises.

Norwegian also owns two private islands – Harvest Caye in Belize and Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas – which passengers can enjoy.

Dining

Board with an appetite. NCL's Breakaway Plus-class ships are home to up to 21 dining venues and the challenge lies in trying to visit them all.

Every ship has a couple of main restaurants and a buffet, both included in your fare. As are venues such as O'Sheehan's Neighborhood Bar and Grill; Topsiders, an al fresco bar and grill; and an array of Asian restaurants.

Specialty restaurants – such as Cagney's, NCL's signature steakhouse, upscale French restaurant, Le Bistro, and Onda by Scarpetta, a popular Italian – all cost extra.

World of Cruising
tip? If you're planning on dining at several specialty restaurants, consider purchasing one of NCL's dining packages so as to save money.
