Designed in 1934 by Josep Torres Clavé, made of wood and handmade rope, the armchair is inspired by traditional Ibizan chairs.
Beyond its functional and aesthetic benefits, part of the interest of this chair lies in its history. Its author, Josep Torres Clavé, born in Barcelona in 1906 and one of the founders of GATCPAC, author together with Sert and Subirana of the rationalist Bloc house and bold republican militant, designed it for the Pavilion of the Spanish Republic at the International Exhibition of Paris in 1937. In the pavilion, designed by Josep LLuís Sert and Luis Lacasa, the armchair shared space along with works by Calder, Miró and Picasso's "Gurnica"
Meanwhile, in Spain, fascism continued to gain ground, until it took Torres Clavé himself, murdered by the Italian fascist aviation on January 12, 1939, at the age of 33.
A chair that beyond its design, transports us to a certain historical context, contributing to compensate for the forgotten memory.
