When I was 7 years old, my grandmother lived with my family. For hours upon hours, she would sit on the old chair next to the upright piano and crochet. She crocheted blankets, doilies, placemats, table runners... I was baffled by what she could produce with her hands and a hook. One day, she handed me an old Susan Bates G Hook in my childhood favorite color: blue. With that, she introduced the beautiful art of crochet to my life, for which I am extremely grateful. I accredit all that my hands produce to my grandmother's tiny gift and tremendous love. She never did have much in life, but she gave me a gift better than riches.
With this love of crochet, I have gone from being able to barely read a pattern to never needing one. In fact, I produce patterns! Little parallels to the love that fills my heart when I see one of my projects that I poured my heart into being appreciated by someone else.
Today, I am crocheting beautiful things for my own children and my shop. Some day, I hope to hand on that one small gift to a grandchild of mine... that old Susan Bates G hook.
