Set of 17 Ukrainian egg dyes in yellow, orange, scarlet, light blue, light green, black, gold, turquoise, red, dark red, raspberry, brick, dark green, pink, purple, royal blue, and pumpkin. This set of NON-EDIBLE dyes includes all the colors from the larger-size Ukrainian egg decorating kit plus five extra colors. Please note that you have the option of adding brown dye to your set in the dye options menu.
These NON-EDIBLE dyes are similar to those used on textiles. They are more vivid than standard supermarket easter egg dyes, creating the brilliant contrasting colors so often used on modern pysanky and batik eggs. (See photo above.) They are for making decorative Ukrainian pysanky and are NOT for use on edible items such as hard-boiled eggs.
Each of these dye packets makes 1 - 1/4 cup of non-edible, water-soluble dyeing solution. They have been approved by a licensed toxicologist as non hazardous to health when used as directed.
For best results, you will need distilled water, white vinegar, and containers for mixing and storing the solutions -- wide mouth glass pint jars with tight sealing lids work well. The solution will last a long time if kept sealed and stored in a cool, dry place. I tend to add an extra tablespoon of white vinegar to compensate for evaporation if my dyes have been sitting for more than a few months. All needed instructions are included on the dye packets.
Ukrainian eggs made from these colorful dyes will stay brilliant and attractive for many years to come. To prevent fading, be sure to store finished eggs away from windows and direct sunlight.
