Frequently asked questions

Why choose Bird in Milk?

At Bird in Milk, we specialise in crafting custom cloth menstrual pads for Women and Teens, using beautiful and natural materials. Our pads are made-to-order, ensuring high absorbency, comfort, breathability, and eco-friendliness through the use of 100% natural fibres.

Your health and comfort are our priority; therefore, we steer clear of polyurethane laminate (PUL), synthetic fleece, and bamboo rayon. Instead, we rely on traditional techniques and natural fabrics, eliminating glues and basting sprays from our production process.

By supporting Bird in Milk, you're endorsing a small Australian home business, and we deeply value each customer.

Getting Started

New to cloth pads? No problem! Begin gradually, integrating them into your routine alongside disposables. This approach allows you to discover preferences and learn care routines.

How many pads will I need?

The number of pads depends on your flow. Typically, having 3 to 4 regular pads and an overnight pad is a good starting point. You can wear a heavier pad on lighter days but not the reverse.

How often do I need to change my cloth pad?

Change cloth pads every 2 to 6 hours, similar to disposables. Most can last overnight with the right absorbency. Change pads when full to prevent leakage.

Bird in Milk Cloth Pad Absorbency system

We offer three absorbency levels: Light, Regular, and Maxi. Match your pad to your flow. Light pads are versatile for light flows and cup backup. Regular pads handle moderate to heavy flows, while Maxi pads are designed for super heavy and postpartum flow.

Will my pad leak?

Matching absorbency to flow prevents leaks, similar to disposables. Regular pads can handle lighter days, but lighter pads should be changed more often on heavier days.

Will my cloth pad move around in my underwear?

Our pads shouldn't shift due to their corduroy backing. Well-fitting underwear also helps. If moving or bunching occurs, adjustments in width or using a longer, flared pad can solve the issue.

Is it gross to wash cloth pads?

Washing cloth pads is no different from cleaning other items with blood. It's not gross, and we provide care instructions to guide you.

What do I do if I’m out and need to change my pad?

If you need to change pads while out, simply store the used pad in a small bag until you can wash it at home.

Why make the switch to Cloth Pads?

Reasons to switch include comfort, environmental concern, cost savings, and health. Disposable products contain undisclosed synthetic fibres, chemicals, fragrances, and dyes. Cloth pads address issues like chafing, rashes, and infections associated with disposable products.

Make the sustainable and comfortable choice with Bird in Milk.
