This historic castle built by Henry VIII is an unusually unaltered artillery fort designed to guard the port of Rye. Camber Castle lies between Rye and Winchelsea.

There is no vehicular access to the castle but it is a one-mile walk on footpaths from Rye, the exterior is viewable at any time.

  • Extending your walk to the castle into a circular walk on the many footpaths of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve and seeing other military structures such as a martello tower and WWII pillboxes.
  • Seeing old and new sea defences, and discovering the changing coastlines.
  • Observing wildlife, especially the birds that can be watched from hides.
