Behind The Lens

The DC Vario-Summilux 3.1x zoom lens beautifully complements the D-LUX 7 compact camera. It offers a 24-75mm equivalent focal length range with a vibrant f1.7-f2.8 maximum aperture range. This focal range suits wide-angle shooting, dynamic portraiture work, and everything in between. The built-in optical image stabilisation further minimises camera shake to enable sharper handheld images when travelling through unexplored cities, undiscovered coastlines, or when shooting with new faces.

Moving-Imagery

If it is high-quality moving images you require, the D-LUX 7 can provide them. This Leica camera supports UHD 4K video recording in either 30p or 24p frame rates at 100 MB/s in MP4 format. Full HD 1080p60 is also capable in both MP4 and AVCHD formats. By merging both the still and the moving, the D-LUX 7 holds a trio of still-shooting modes for continuous 8MP stills at a 30fps shooting rate.

These include Burst, Pre-Burst, and Burst (S/S). The first allows for continuous recording, ideal for when you require a fast frame rate to capture the perfect shot. Pre-Burst, however, will record images one second prior to and one second after pressing the shutter button. This gives you 60 frames to choose from, whilst Burst (S/S) allows you to handpick the best frame from the pre-recorded video and save it as a single 8MP frame. It is this versatility that makes the D-LUX 7 such a crowd favourite - putting the emphasis back on the artist to craft the image.

The Classical And The Contemporary

In recent years, Leica has seamlessly combined the classical with the contemporary. With the D-LUX 7, you have the luxury of a bright 2.76m-dot resolution viewfinder for clear eye-level viewing, even in the brightest sunlight. A 3.0" 1.24m-dot touch-sensitive LCD screen sits pride of place upon the rear of the camera body for access to the menu, image playback, and for selecting AF points whilst shooting. The included hot shoe-mounted external flash provides further illumination when working in poor lighting conditions, adding a certain dynamic flare to your images.

Access the Leica FOTOS app on your iOS or Android device with the D-LUX 7's in-built WiFi and Bluetooth connection to share images directly to a paired mobile device. You can also access a live-view image and use your device as a remote control. The D-LUX 7 has another trick up its sleeve, with Post Focus allowing you to select the point of focus after an image has been taken. This is aided by an electronic shutter function at a top shutter speed of 1/16,000 sec to better combat bright conditions and with wider aperture settings.

007 Edition

This 007 Edition of the D-Lux 7 is as slick and suave as Bond himself. The body is covered in a special diamond-patterned texture, and the lens cap sports the iconic gun barrel design. Engraved on the top plate is an official 007 logo, as well as the edition number. Is this built-in lens sealed from dust?

Every time you focus or zoom this lens, it essentially "breathes" - a good way of expelling unwanted dust and debris. However, this lens is not classed as dustproof or waterproof. If issues occur, be sure to contact Leica Customer Care for sensor cleaning and servicing.

Is the built-in lens a zoom or prime?

The lens is an intuitive 3x zoom lens with a fast f1.7-f2.8 aperture. The short focal length means that you have to put great thought into framing - well-loved by the more contemplative image-maker.

Can you use a non-Leica flash unit with the D-LUX 7?

The D-LUX 7 is compatible with any speedlight that fits Panasonic and Olympus cameras of the same design.

Is the D-LUX 7 auto-focus?

Yes, the D-LUX 7 is an auto-focus camera, but it can be set to manual if preferred.

Can you utilise an external microphone when using the D-LUX 7?

Unfortunately not, there is no available external microphone and no headphone/external mic jack. The quality built-in microphone works wonders when recording video, however.
