This is the knitting pattern to make my wire spiral necklaces.
I have made this available for crafters who already have most of the materials to make this piece - or wish to use up their jewellery supplies in trying a new craft.
The knitting pattern will make the wire automatically twist to the left to create the helix effect, there is no manipulating of the wire afterwards, and the knitted piece will retain its shape. This pattern is suitable for an intermediate knitter.
The size of the necklace will depend on your tension, a tight knitter will produce a slightly smaller knitted piece, but as it is jewellery, the tension/size is less significant.
You will need around 35 metres of 0.25mm or 30 gauge coloured copper jewellery wire in the colour of your choice - From years of making wire jewellery, I find this is the best gauge for knitting and crocheting with. It’s flexible/thin enough to not hurt your fingers when knitting, but is also strong and retains it’s shape once knitted/crocheted.
The wires are widely available online - I sell a few colours in my etsy store.
