Summary

A werewolf killer. A paranormal murder. How many times can Emma Bellamy cheat death?

I’m one placement away from becoming a fully fledged London detective. It’s bad enough that my last assignment before I qualify is with Supernatural Squad. But that’s nothing compared to what happens next.

Brutally murdered by an unknown assailant, I wake up 12 hours later in the morgue - and I’m very much alive. I don’t know how or why it happened. I don’t know who killed me. All I know is that they might try again.

Werewolves are disappearing right, left, and centre.

A mysterious vampire seems intent on following me everywhere I go.

And I have to solve my own vicious killing. Preferably before death comes for me again.

Good easy listen

Definitely a pleasant read, combination of crime and supernatural theme entertaining but struggled with the narrator nearly didn’t finish it because of the performance

Enjoyable Read

I enjoyed this Urban Fantasy detective novel. Emma and Lucas were enjoyable characters, neither were annoying. The story tripped along at a good pace. The conclusion was satisfactory but with some unanswered questions that encourages you to read the next book in the series.
I liked it enough to get the next book.

Interesting approach on supernatural world

Personal opinion: Overall story approach is particulary different (5*). Detail narrative is fine, but more regular (4*). Performance voice is good (4,5*).

Good book

It’s a interesting twist for a crime novel. Plenty to keep you listening. Book is well written, the inter play of the supernaturals not overly complicated and comes out in the story as part of it as a posed to a lecture. Looking forward to trying another.

Excellent start to new series

I am always excited when I get an e-mail that new Helen Harper book is available for pre-order. OK, I am kidding, I am stalking her on facebook. I have been also known to get up very early just so I can start listening as I always pre-order. Helen did not disappoint. We have an idealist and capable heroine who can be a bit slow on the uptake in human/monster relationships and we do cheer for her all the way through.
As always entertaining and one for best spot on my virtual library shelf. Can not wait for next one in series!!!

Breathless boredom

The story was fine I’ve read and listened to other Helen Harper books and they have been really entertaining. The narrator of this book was a let down. Her voice was pleasant but mild boredom and listlessness seemed to be the only emotion, sometimes we got a slight breathlessness (maybe it was multiple sighs) to go with the ennui It felt like Eyore had a female counterpart and they were reading to me. I left the story feeling slightly depressed and in need of a Prozac

Dull and two dimensional

I was looking forward to listening to this book and thought it had potential. I wasted a lot of time listening to it when I aught to have thrown in the towel, returned it and looked for somethingelse to listen to. Having given up on it I'm surprised by the sense of relief that I'm experiencing! I didn't engage with the characters or the plot because they were flat and undeveloped. I became bored then irritated. The narrator gave the main character a moaning whining voice which didn't help.
