  • "This is the second time we’ve stayed at the Mill."

The first being Christmas and NY 2019/2020 before Covid . We had both the Mill and the Dairy for our family Christmas , absolutely amazing. I can 100% say it’s one of our best Sykes stays . We had it just for the Easter Wknd and the following week . What an absolutely fantastic week we had , the weather wasn’t the best but we still had an amazing time . Plenty of adventures local and went as far as Hay on Wye and Breacon . The land that comes with the cottage is fantastic and we would walk the legs off our dogs ( Vizsla & GSP ) every morning and then clean them off in the lake on the way back . I can not fault the Mill in any way considering we had two teenagers with us and not once did we hear the dreaded “ I’m board “ . That makes a massive difference to our sanity. We will definitely be back sooner next time Matt , Sam , Kids & hounds

, No other information On Christmas night the radiators starting making a very loud rattling noise Which woke us all up , my son made a video of the noise and sent to the owner. We spoke to him the following morning and he told us what we had to do to stop it happening which were not aware of in the original instructions given verbally by the owner We did not get an apology for a very disturbing night which I felt considering the cost of the rental was the least that could have happened , no one came around to make sure all was now well It’s rather frightening to suddenly be woken up in the middle of the night with a noise which initially we didn’t know where it was coming from It occurred in all the bedrooms

It’s very well equipped and super clean. I can’t think of anything else we’d want from a holiday cottage. It’s perfectly placed for so many activities, which for us included a Forest Segway ride, a great family friendly mountain biking route, a canoe down the River Wye, a steam train ride, archery, tree climbing, zip wiring...we were certainly not bored! The grounds of the accommodation allowed us to play rounders and boules with plenty of space to share with the neighbours. We also did some great nature walks around the lake - beautiful! Oh, and how’s this for service - I enquired with the owners about EV charging and they very promptly fitted an 11kw tethered charger ahead of our stay - no range anxiety for us!! We feel it would greatly benefit the overall experience if there were some comfortable outside seating and a cover and cleaning materials for the BBQ. We also feel that at this price level clingfilm, tinfoil and kitten towel should be provided we went and bought our own. Our friends and my wife and I do at least one cottage holiday each year at similar price ranges and this is the first time these have not been provided. We were told that the Lake had not been stocked for 6 or 7 years but it is set in a very peaceful setting and for us fished well. • "I booked the Old Mill for the first bank holiday weekend in May."

It seemed the perfect place to take my wife and son, sister-in-law and her family, and my father-in-law to celebrate my wife's 30th birthday. The Old Mill sits in an enclosed compound which sits on a very large acreage in a hamlet named Flaxley. Given my sister-in-law has a two-year-old daughter, it was a perfect place for her to run about without us having to worry about what she was up to. When she fell backwards off a picnic bench and smacked her head off the stone pavement the owner, Ben, brought a small child's bench for her to use. We also arrived back from a few long walks to find extra toys awaiting us, which I believe is conduct above and beyond. Ben and Kelly were the most accommodating and inviting hosts and I can't say enough about them. I suppose mentioning that we will be making the Old Mill an annual weekend away should suffice. If you have a family and want a safe, beautiful place to get away I can't recommend it highly enough.

We have just returned from a week's stay and we are so pleased we found this place. You really won't be disappointed if you stay here! The owners Ben & Kelly were great, so helpful and accommodating. We had contacted with them a couple of times before our holiday and nothing was too much trouble. We were met by Ben on arrival and his introduction to the property was great. The welcome pack was just so kind & thoughtful, we really appreciated it. The property is well equipped and perfectly caters for children. This is a beautiful, peaceful, safe location. It's a perfect location for visiting so many places. We went to Gloucester, Cotswolds- Bibury (beautiful!!), Burford, Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-World, all worth a visit - can't beat the Cotswolds. We also went to to Cotswold Park Farm, great day out for the kiddies, highly recommended! We also went on the GWR steam train trip too, again definitely recommended. To eat out locally, we can certainly say both The Red Hart in Blaisdon and The White Hart in Newnham were super! Good food, very friendly and accommodating. Make sure you are hungry though! Ben and Kelly, thank you again and hopefully we'll be back one day!

  • "We can't recommend this cottage highly enough."

The Old Mill was beautifully designed, spotlessly clean, and ideal for our needs. We were a group of 6 adults, a 2 year old and a 7 month old. The owners were extremely helpful and accommodating and we were delighted with the equipment provided for the children (2 cots, 2 high chairs and a chest full of toys). Each room was beautifully decorated and finished to a high standard. The bedrooms were all on the ground floor. The bathrooms we again spotlessly clean, and extra toiletries (shampoo, conditioner etc) were also provided. The main downstairs living area was more than big enough for all of us, and we were able to spill out outside onto the benches and grass. The large table would easily seat 10, and creates a really sociable area. Upstairs is a lovely sofa area with large TV and little balcony. We enjoyed spending the evenings chatting upstairs (without disturbing the children sleeping downstairs). We walked over to the large lake and enjoyed watching the swans. Thank you for a lovely weekend!

The property is gorgeous, beautifully decorated and very well equipped. Sort of place you wouldn't mind having a rainy day in - it's so cosy, immaculate and beautiful. Ben and Kelly left a fab welcome pack (which included cake and wine, best welcome pack we've ever had at a holiday rental place) and were very helpful and welcoming. Well kitted out for kids too, with toys, books, plastic plates, cups etc. Ben made my son's day by giving him a ride in the tractor and he was able to watch them making bales. We usually stay in the Old Dairy but needed more space this year. The layout of the accommodation is first class. All three bedrooms are in the downstairs area. One bedroom has its own en-suite. The upstairs lounge area overlooks the fantastic kitchen which is well equipped. Off the lounge area is a small balcony with seating. From this balcony there are lovely views towards the fields and the lake. A lovely place to sit and read whilst enjoying the peace and quiet. There is the use of a BBQ which we took advantage of using in the sunny weather. A very good welcome pack was left for us by Ben and Kelly the owners. A variety of toys for my grandson to use during our stay was also greatly appreciated. The two dogs Ruby and Buster enjoyed many walks around the fields and lake every day.

The pictures do not do this place justice. The attention to detail is very impressive. An old building fabulously restored and finished to such a high standard giving a great feeling of luxury. Opening the fridge to find bread, eggs, milk, butter and orange juice and even a bottle of wine to welcome us was terrific. And as for the huge coffee cake....delicious. So many thoughtful touches such as the toiletries, boxes of tissues etc. From the moment we drove through the electric gates and down the driveway to the house we just knew this was something special.
