Get set for a print with lots of Grrr factor.

While planning a cooler weather blouse, this shorter sleeve blouse was my first crack at using this fabric.

This new Tiger Kingdom print is the perfect monochrome print that will last a few seasons.

This print is a black on creme base or Bengal colourway. There’s also a Sumatra colourway which is simply white on black base. Quite unique colourway name right?

This design is printed onto morrocaine crepe which is a fabulously drapey crepe fabric with beautiful surface texture. It has a silky feel and is resistant to creasing. Yes to no ironing this blouse.

I’ve learnt the morrocaine crepe base used on Minerva’s exclusive prints are easy to sew and wear.

Yes the fibre is polyester but the feel of this crepe feels great. Not sticky like polyester can feel. I can vouch for that as I’ve already worn this blouse a few times while it’s been hot and sticky here in Australia.

Now I would have loved to have made a dress, but seriously. I’m a jeans and shirt wearer most of the time. As Minerva suggested, you may need to underline this fabric when you make a dress from the Bengal colourway. I doubt you’d need to underline the Sumatra colourway.

As you can see here, I’ve recently sewn a bunch of Designer Stitch patterns Peyton jeans because these jeans are booty friendly. Having this monochrome print allows me to pair this Tiger Kingdom print with any colour jeans.

You can also see that I don’t tuck in my blouse because in our current Summer, I need to feel less constricted throughout the day.

Going back to this fabric, this crepe is easy to layout to cut out. It’s very obliging to sew. I used Vlieseline G 785 in white to keep the base crepe fabric looking bright. Using a white interfacing is always my preference for these print types.

I found Vlieseline to be easy to iron and it adheres to the fabric the first time it’s ironed.

The pattern I’ve used is one I’ve had for years. This pattern is Burda Style 6533 with a roll collar and is designed for crepe fabrics, cotton fabrics and viscose-rayons.

The pattern suggests and is designed for 4 buttons but I used 3 buttons. That’s a short person win. The buttons were in my stash.

The beauty of this blouse pattern is the roll colour. It’s a brilliant choice to pair with this morrocaine crepe fabric.

And I wasn’t aiming to match the print across the blouse. This ‘just happened’. Scout’s honour.

Making satin form fit you is a challenge but oh, so worth doing.

This is my Papercut patterns Yoyo dress upsized because I've put on weight and it worked.

I really needed the 'right' zipper for this dress, as well as making sure it fit.

In my previous post you'll see what I did to make this dress work.

Last night I wore this gorgeous blue satin dress to Blue Mountains Frocktails and the venue was the historic Carrington Hotel.

I was able to score a ticket for Ross to attend as well. He had a great time too.

Oh. Now Papercut patterns Yoyo dress doesn't have pockets. That was an adjustment I made and I added more shape to my hips.

I honestly wasn't sure how this dress would turn out.

Shapely - yes.
Easy to wear - definitely.
Would I do it again - certainly with this range of satin fabrics.

Oh I absolutely love it! The super crisp gathers, the bright monochrome and the swish....makes me swoon and I cannot wait for the warmer temperatures so I never have to take it off!

After the aforementioned fabric disaster in my earlier post (which we will no longer talk about 🤫), I had more than enough to make the ZW gather dress by Birgitta Helmersson - I chose to do the gathered sleeve hack but could also keep the pockets - win!! It took some creativity, problem solving and a lot of tailors chalk to map out the pattern pieces to fit me - I kept the bodice the same size as the recommended measurements (extended by 5cm for my height) and then adjusted the other pieces to fit the fabric. The skirt isn't as full as it should be but it still has a very high swish factor.

Using this poplin was perfect for a zero waste pattern! It's structure and stability meant that marking up all of the pattern pieces was a dream - the chalk just glided over the fabric without any pulling and wrinkling. It's the third time I've made this dress and the drawing and cutting was such a breeze compared to the previous two times. Due to the ease of chalking the fabric, I maybe have gone overboard and labelled up all the pieces with full words rather than symbols 😂

The dress was a straightforward sew - I slightly narrowed the neckline and arm bias and cut this on the bias as I had some extra fabric (had to piece the neckline bias from about 11 different strips). It's the first time I've managed to get the bias around the back of the neck to sit flat with this pattern (woo hoo!). I sewed up the front opening and added two vintage glass buttons I was gifted as part of a button stash from my MIL 👌

I thoroughly enjoyed sewing with the poplin - cotton lawn has long been my favourite but I think that poplin just might have overtaken it....

This dress is made for spring and summertime sauntering, picnics in the park and drinks in the beer garden - I cannot wait to be wearing this dress through those days....with black sandals, accessories and sunglasses.....I'll post more pics when that happens so you can see it in its full, sun-loving glory (a February, lock-downed London was not the best backdrop for this breezy number 🙈😂)☀️

Night-time glam

This is version 3 using this satin fabric with a touch of sequins on the cap sleeves.

There are no closures and this style is very plain, very wearable and very easy to develop for day or evening occasions.

Once I'd made this dress twice I had the comfort in knowing I could whip this dress together and only get a bit anxious adding the sequins.

I love the dress shape. As you can see this dress has French darts that make the dress shapely and not too boxy.

I love that there are no closures for this pattern. This is also an easy dress to wear when you are also seated.

The neckline finishes come out much nicer when you iron each stage as you go. Ironing with this fabric is the key to getting a brilliant make from it.

One of the changes I made was to raise the pockets up by 2" so they match where I am most comfortable wearing this dress.

I can say that I'm not bored by this dress style. As a matter of fact, I may be able to sew this dress up without the sewing instructions. Now that would be scary.

Geneva GirlHello there - I have bought the pattern or this dress. I love the simple lines. May I ask which tape did you use as stay tape for the neckline? I have studied the pattern and notice that the seam allowance is not the standard 5/8th which I have used with practically everything I have made. The allowance does change within the garment? Did this work OK for you? Did you find it came up true to size? I will make a toile of the main body pieces.

When I saw the message about #FrankenStyle I pondered the many mashups of patterns I have tried, but in the end it had to be the #Halloween costume I made for my daughter last year.

Using a hand me down dress from her sister, a lot of papier-mâché and a pair of my satin gloves (stuffed with pipe cleaners 😂) and a hastily sewn Velcroed hole, I was rather chuffed with the finished product.

And the headless knight at Warwick Castle even asked if he could have his photo taken with her.

(It was throwing it down 🌧️ so sadly the hoody she had to wear underneath detracted from the style a little 🤨)
