Buenos Aires
Cultural City with Easy Transport
Buenos Aires might be the tango capital of the world, but that doesn’t mean the city doesn’t have plenty to offer visitors and tourists. As one of the most affluent cities in South America, the capital city of Argentina has a distinctly European look and feel.
With just under three million residents in the greater Buenos Aires metro area, it is one of the most populous cities in South America and has a number of cultural, social and dining options that keep people coming back for more.
Because the city is so large and set up on a grid pattern, it makes public transportation quite easy. The Buenos Aires Underground and Colectivos bus system make it simple to visit all the various neighborhoods, and the Ezeiza rail station makes the trip from Ministro Pistarini International Airport to downtown convenient.
Tangos and Operas Galore
What Buenos Aires might be most famous for is the tango. So it stands to reason that any visitor coming to the city must make viewing a traditional Argentine tango part of their wish list. To watch, look for tango nights known as Milongas at local establishments. And, for the adventurous why not consider taking a few lessons, DNI Tango and La Catedral and perfect places to start.
Opera also plays a huge cultural role in the life and style of Buenos Aires, there are more opera houses and theaters here than most visitors would find in any other city in the world. The top spot to enjoy a night of opera would include the Colon Theater or Teatro Colon.
Stroll the Neighborhoods
Another favorite activity for visitors is to simply stroll the streets of Buenos Aires. Since it is separated into distinct neighborhoods, it is easy to wander between them and find a totally different vibe and lifestyle. For a glimpse into the traditional visit San Telmo or La Boca, for more modern and trendy Buenos Aires with great shopping and dining, head to the Palermo and Reitro districts.
