OldPunkJunk is not really a business, its closer to a passion, a mix between a hobby and helping others enjoy similar interests. Throughout my professional career I have been fortunate to have developed a broad range of technical skills, and this hobby allows me to expand on even more - plumbing, electrical, casting, welding, soldering, plating, patina applications, wiring, restoration, glass cutting, tube bending, painting, parts modification and manufacturing; all combined with a healthy dose of some imagination.
My hobby motto is that "Every Part Has A Story." When I see an old part I like to ponder for a bit about where it came from, who used it, who made it, what purpose did it serve, how did it end up here, etc.? A particular piece of ‘Junk’ may represent an era of hardship, war, prosperity, or an article of importance for its owner that has long since been replaced by modern technology that we now fail to fully appreciate. My lamps bring this 'Junk' back to life, to get us to think about the original workmanship employed, or the pride of the craftsman who spent a lifetime mastering his/her craft.
My overall business strategy is to break about even, funding for my parts to keep my hobby going, and to fund the educational side of the hobby so others can learn some of the techniques involved with building these unique lamps.
