Meet our Giraffe. She's cute, cuddly and totally adorable. This pattern supplies directions for making our Giraffe.
This Giraffe is suitable for intermediate knitters and assumes an understanding of basic stitches and standard knitting terms as well as understanding the concept for short rows and colourwork. An understanding of how to sew together stuffed animals is not required, but does make things easier. Our Giraffe is knit flat and sewn together using a mattress stitch.
If you’re new to knitting stuffed friends, or are uncomfortable winging it without strict guidelines (that’s OK, we all need good directions sometimes to help us out) you will need approximately 90 m of medium weight cream yarn and 70 m of medium weight light brown yarn for the head, legs and body and 22 m of medium weight dark brown yarn for the hooves and horns. With this yarn, use 4 mm (US size 6) needles. You will also need a small amount of black yarn for the face, stuffing (we use ecofil or wool) and a tapestry needle to sew your giraffe together. This will let you create a giraffe that’s approximately 30 cm (12 inches), from the top of it's head to the bottom of it's bum.
The beauty of knitting stuffed friends is that this pattern can be knit in any size yarn with accompanying needles. Generally we find using a size or two smaller needles than required by the yarn allows for the tightness needed when you’re stuffing your finished product.
