The wire we use is plated with a tarnish resistant coating. However, frequent use and washing/chemicals can remove this coating.

We use copper wire in various gauges. Copper wire is commonly used for jewelry and can be bent (this is important as we create each bookmark by hand). We temper our designs but they should not be used roughly. If you find your bookmark doesn't hold the page well turn it around and use from the other side.
