Who Can Use SmoothSkin?
The chart shows the skin tones that are suitable for IPL treatment, these are skin tones I to V on the Fitzpatrick Scale. IPL is not suitable for skin tone VI, so you should not use the device on very dark skin tones as this may cause damage to the skin.
IPL is effective on naturally black, brown and darker blonde hair colours, but may not be as effective on red, white, grey or very light blonde hair. White and grey hair does not contain enough melanin to absorb light energy. Red hair contains a different type of melanin which is not responsive to IPL.

I purchased this unit and used it for 7 weeks, 1 treatment per week on my calves and my underarm areas, I had no issues with the underarm area at all but after the 6th treatment on my calves I broke out in a rash that took about three weeks to clear up so I had to stop any further treatments on my legs. The big surprise is that with only 7 treatments the hair on my calves has not grown back at all and it’s been months now, my underarm area is hair free as well so this product works and in less treatments than the 12 they recommend! I’m very happy.
