"The best soap nuts I ever bought: all whole and de-seeded, still slightly sticky because they're fresh, glistening dark brown color. To make liquid concentrate: put 16 soap nuts in 2 cups of water (or 8 ounces soap nuts in 1 gallon water; bring to a GENTLE boil on low heat (do not rapid boil because it will foam up); cover and simmer for 10 minutes; turn fire off; let liquid cool; then, pour into glass jar; refrigerate jar so that liquid will be good indefinitely. This liquid concentrate smells a little like apple cider. Put the boiled soap nuts in the sun to dry, then use them again later to make more liquid concentrate. You could use them 3 - 4 times before they become gray and disintegrate: When they do, put them in your compost bin to return them to Mother Earth... zero waste!"
