About our Toys

My wife and I both share the same memory, our grandfathers skillfully shaping wood. As children we used to watch their hands woodworking for hours, making as little noise as possible as if not to break a spell. When we decided to open a small business making wooden toys in rural Romania, those moments of wonder gave us confidence in our own skills as artisans.

Our toys are designed, cut and painted by hand in Romania using different varieties of Romanian hardwood, hand-colored with non-toxic paints, with attractive and simple shapes. The material from which the toys are made is a living one, so the interaction of the children with the wood and the natural colors, stimulates in a constructive and harmonious way their development, their emotional and cognitive growth.

Each piece is unique and we pour a lot of love, passion and time in everything we make. We use high quality products to ensure each piece will be a worthy partner for even the most adventurous partners in play.

As a small family run business we also employ local artisans in an effort to sustain the local economy and help preserve local craftsmanship. Each piece is masterfully crafted so that you can easily enter the imaginary world of children’s games – high quality craftsmanship.

In an effort to perfect our product and ensure our toys are as inclusive as possible we consult in our design process with a psychologist that specializes in early child development and intervention. Children need a positive image of the world, which also surrounds them with opportunities to recreate life situations caught in the stories of childhood, where they can enter without fear. They are looking for safety and meaning in life. By finding these emotions in play, children gain the courage and power to face reality. In many children’s rooms, our toys come to transform the world into adorable and wonderful images. With such toys, children can perceive the world around them as better. They can relive all experiences through the game, easily recreating fantasy game themes, which come to life.

The seeds of our workshop Bumbu Toys were planted in our hearts a long time ago and now it's our turn to transform wood into something equally beautiful, passing a small piece of that magic to little ones around the world.
