Crarae Garden
Planning your visit
Storm damage
The storm on 7 October 2023 badly damaged many of the path networks throughout the garden, especially through the woodland garden and by the burn. Whilst many of the paths have now been restored, please take care when visiting.
Please see our drop-down Facilities below for helpful information about planning your visit.
For more information about planning your visit, please see our frequently asked questions.
If you’d like to speak to us we can be contacted by email on CraraeGarden@nts.org.uk or telephone 01546 886614.
Facilities & access
We have an ongoing programme of accessible content development. Detailed accessibility guides for the most visited Trust places are available on our Accessibility pages as well as links to useful resources.
We’d love you to visit the Euan’s Guide website to review the accessibility of Trust places and tell us (and others) what’s good and where we need to do better.
Disabled parking bays are located just by the entrance to the visitor centre.
Bike racks are available.
Crarae Garden is family friendly, with the lower area of the garden offering walks for families with prams/pushchairs.
The café caters for everyone, with highchairs and a children’s colouring corner.
We have a children’s quiz to help explore the garden – these are popular with our younger visitors but it’s not unknown for adults to request a pack too!
Dogs are welcome at Crarae, but we ask that they are kept on a short lead at all times.
Guided tours are available but must be booked in advance – please call the garden for more information.
Parking is free.
Walks range in length from 15 minutes to around 1 hour. If you wish to see the whole garden, we recommend allowing 2½ hours for your visit.
There are no facilities on the walks – all facilities are at the visitor centre.
- There is wheelchair access to the shop and café.
- Only the lower garden is accessible for wheelchairs. Elsewhere, the terrain on some routes is steep with steps.
- The viewing platform in the glen is accessible with assistance. The shop, café and toilets are wheelchair-accessible.
