We first draw the design on to the fabric with charcoal. -
Wax is applied to areas that we want to remain white. -
After the first dye bath. -
Wax is applied a second time. -
The final product. The shirt has been submerged in boiling water to remove wax. It has also been washed and dried.

Batik is an ancient fabric art that uses wax as a resist in a dying process. My wife and I learned this art form as Peace Corps volunteers in West Africa and have been perfecting our craft for 20 years.
