"You Remind Me Of The Babe"....only the memory in 4K is better!!

Well what can I say that hasn't already been said about this often misunderstood masterpiece?? It goes without say that Zavvi have once again delivered a fantastic exclusive edition of a cult classic. All of the usual things, postage, customer service etc were of the most amazingly high standards as usual, however the guys at Zavvi have definitely pulled the goblin out of the labyrinth for this edition!! Whilst often the shiny 'exclusives' are normally overpriced post cards....however not the case here. The packaging is gorgeous and of a real high quality not often seen. This attention to detail on all aspects of the packaging for this amazing addition is why Zavvi remain the go to guys for ultimate editions of classics! The look of the book packaging is completely in tune with the film. I wasn't going to review the film itself but focus on the brilliant and outstanding quality of the packing however it needs to be said. The film is already amazing even on worn to death VHS copies, such as mine as a kid, however the upgrade to 4K is sublime. I mean the sheer genius of the creature designs by the Henson workshop is something that still amazes you forget that in fact t there is only 2 actual humans in the film. Everything you remember as a kid is ramped upto a thousand and rather than being worried about 4K exposing flaws in the 35 year old film it only further magnifies the sheer technical marvel this film is!!! The 4K turns the colors and visuals upto the max without ever being distracting. Whilst nowhere near the oldest film been given the 4K treatment the age of the film could have resulted in a poorly remastered edition, however this version is amazing!! Everything is purely the best version of the film that you'll ever see! In pure cinematic terms there is just enough grain left to truly make this epic and triumph of production design pop and allows you to own a piece of pure silver screen magnificence!! I wont labour the point of narrative but just the truly iconic performances of the late David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly are the heart and soul of this fantastical, often demented and slightly threatening journey into the centre of the labyrinth!! Zavvi you have more than matched the amazing 4K remaster of this film with a truly worthy 'exclusive' that blows the preciously realised 4k steelbook out of the picture. A perfect coming together of artistry, production design, performance, puppetry and luxurious packaging combine to leave a release that well and truly should be at the top of any cinephiles want list, regardless of how many copies you already own! A great price for an absolutely excellent quality remastering of an iconic film where both technical and physical design comes together to create something truly special! Yours sincerely The Goblin King

Excellent

Quality of picture was a real big difference from the last 4k release of it, sound quality was really good too, colours rich and bold. And of course a fab film.

Best Blu-Ray case in my possession.

Material on the case feels like a book and the embossed lettering helps add to the genuine look. Slipcase has nice art too but looks great with or without it. Booklet is excellent. The film speaks for itself and the special features are fantastic. Worth it for any fan of the film.

A Stunning Anniversary Edition!

Since I was a child “Labyrinth” has always been my favourite childhood film, I love the story, the songs and of course the late great “David Bowie” as the goblin king. I’ve had many different editions of this classic over the years, but this is the best one yet, “Zavvi” has again done a fantastic job with this 4K 35th anniversary edition. Anything comes housed in the most beautiful book like case, with stunning artwork both inside and out, also comes with a clear protective slipcase with beautiful artwork on it too. This edition also comes with a few more new extras, which are most welcome indeed. Also the 4K remaster looks gorgeous, “Sony” have done a fantastic job, way better than the last 4K release. If “Labyrinth” is your childhood favourite film too and if you want to see it the best it’s ever looked, then you need this amazing 4K edition in your collection, I promise you won’t regret it!

Differences between this and the 30th Anniversary UHD release ...

If anyone needs to know what the differences are between this and the previous UHD release then: This has Dolby-Vision and HDR; the previous release has no Dolby-Vision. This has the original soundtrack which the former release lacks. This has a couple more extras. I have the first release and it looks and sounds really good so this one can only be the equal or slightly better.
