The company won the Feefo Platinum Trusted Service award in 2023 for providing excellent customer service.

Direct Travel Insurance policy details

Not all policies and types are available through our site, so the exact levels of cover and benefits may vary. Before buying travel insurance, we recommend checking the policy details.

Direct Travel Insurance offers 3 types of policy: single-trip, multi-trip and backpacker.

Single-trip

Available to those over 18, single-trip insurance covers you for one trip. It includes cover for things like medical emergencies, personal belongings and cancellations. There are 4 levels to choose from: Budget, Standard, Premier and Premier Plus.

Annual multi-trip

With an annual-trip, or multi-trip, policy, you can take as many trips as you'd like in a 12-month period. You're covered for lost and stolen luggage, 24/7 medical emergency assistance and medical treatment.

Backpacker

With a backpacker policy you can travel for extended periods of time and to multiple destinations in one trip. You can also return home for special occasions without invalidating your policy. It covers you for sports and activities like trekking and paragliding.

Direct Travel Insurance optional extras

Direct Travel Insurance offers a range of policy upgrades to suit a variety of needs. Because of this, you might be able to get the following extras with your policy:

Ski and winter sports insurance covers lost, stolen or damaged equipment for more than 30 sports. It also includes piste closure if snow levels aren't appropriate for skiing. You can get cover for 17-45 days.

Cruise insurance protects you for a wide range of claims. This includes cabin confinement due to illness or injury, ship-to-shore airlift, missed ports, delayed departures, and itinerary changes.

UK break cover may appeal if you're planning a weekend or city break, or a few days in a tent at a UK music festival. Benefits include cancellation due to illness or accident, and loss or theft of personal property and cash. You can get cover for up to 5 days.

Natural disasters are typically excluded from travel insurance policies. Direct Travel Insurance provides cover in the event of catastrophes like tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, tornados, earthquakes and wildfire. This offers replacement flights, additional nights at a hotel, and extra food.

Family travel insurance means up to 6 children under the age of 17 can travel for the same price. It also offers discounts for those that are a part of your family.

Medical conditions cover offers cover for a range of pre-existing medical conditions, both physical and mental. This includes, but isn't limited to: Alzheimer's, arthritis, cancer, diabetes, epilepsy and depression. You must declare any medical conditions to the insurer before you buy your policy, or you won't be covered.

Activities cover, to protect you while you take part in activites like hot air ballooning, bungee-jumping or snorkelling.

Gadget cover is available at 3 levels: Bronze, silver and gold. This option may appeal to you if you're planning to take an expensive digital camera, phone, tablet or laptop, which would exceed the usual level of cover to replace.

Car hire excess covers some or all of the costs if your hire car keys are lost or stolen, you put the wrong fuel into the engine, or the car is vandalised.
