Phage. Bacteriophage. This Phage may make you laugh not just smile. Perfect for succulent or small items.
Phages are the most numerous organism on this planet they are found everywhere and they are smaller then a bacteria by factor of a hundred.
Phages are bacteria's natural nemesis, up to forty percent of bacteria in the ocean are use up by phages.
Phages are very selective in the type of bacteria they destroy, Each type will destroy a particular bacteria. Therefore, phages have great way to destroy bacterial pathogen. Agricultural industries use phages to treat crops to prevent bacterial infections and food producers add phages to food as a mean to guard against bacterial contamination. Doctors use phages' selective action as a tool to cure micro bacterium infection. Genetic researchers and Bio engineers also employ Bacteriophage to work on their CRISPER Cas9 gene DNA editing projects.
Phage is a protein particle, a virus. Bacteriophage is used to fight and destroy superbug infection when there is no antibiotics will help (multi drug resistant superbug). For those life were saved by phage therapy the results are astounding. Medical researchers are working on Bacteriophage therapy clinical trials and may become mainstream soon consider so many people die of superbug infection.
But, no no no no no, this is not the infamously notorious Corona virus that scourge the earth. That's the evil, insidious and nefarious type of virus. May you be far away from it.
Viruses has no store of energy and mechanism to help it get around, it moves by passive motility, example by fluid flow, air flow or host transportation (think why social distancing works).
All virus infect host cells by common theme of trickery, they posses access key to enter target cells, they barge in, knocking on door is not always necessary. Taken into host cell by endocytosis, recognized repeat offenders are duly destroyed, unknown new intruder on the other hand will hijack the host cell, consume it's energy, forced to replicate more viruses, break out, and leave the host cell wither.
Where does COVID-19 come from? Theory suggests close and bloody handling of wild life is not advisable. They may carry viruses which can be rub into host cells by wound, cut, bite, scratch... giving them direct access to the inner workings of host cells. In this scenario access key can easily be manufactured by using readily available fitting cell materials, thereby enabling them to further infect healthy cells and propagate. New viruses can also be artificially assembled in laboratory settings. That's another story, I would rather talk about something light.
Here I present you the beloved Phage pot, the type that may make you smile :D
Moreover, I am very confident you will enjoy shedding light on the bright side of virus.
