Lokta Papers are exclusively and traditionally hand crafted by best artisans in the Himalayas region of Nepal using local labor and raw materials. These acid free papers are made without electricity no tree destruction. The bark of the Lokta bush that grows at altitude of more than 9000 feet from sea level is a renewable source with capacity to regenerate itself from undamaged root system.
Lokta paper is prepared from the fibrous bark of the Daphine Cannabina, or Lokta in the local language, which grows at high altitudes in the Himalayas. The bark is boiled and beaten with wooden mallets to produce a pulp which is poured into wooden frames and sun-dried. The resulting Lokta paper is strong and attractive and can then be dyed, stenciled, printed and transformed into a great variety of attractive paper products by craftsmen such as greeting cards, stationary sets, notebooks, gift-wrapping paper, photo albums, lamps.
