Maybe being a morning person doesn’t come naturally to you - but believe it or not, there are things you can do to become a little less grumpy and a little more energetic when it's time to wake up.

#1 Reward yourself

If you have to get up early, you may as well reward yourself for avoiding the snooze button and hitting your goal.

Your reward can be something simple, just something to make you feel good.

? Consider playing your favourite music to help boost your mood as you get ready to head out of the door.

? Even five minutes of silence just meditating can make a huge difference to your mood by making you feel good for taking the time out to reward yourself - especially for doing something that you find difficult.

#2 Exercise

What better way to start your morning than with a good sweat session.

Exercising in the morning not only gets it out of the way for the day, it also releases endorphins that improve your mood going forward for the day ahead.

Many people also find they can train better early in the day and have a better session so it can be well worth getting up a bit earlier to fit it in.

Remember to pack a snack for afterwards though so that you can kick start the recovery process and avoid any mid morning hunger pangs and cravings!

#3 Set yourself up for a good sleep

Getting a good night’s sleep can make or break a positive outlook on the day ahead. If you don’t get enough sleep, mentally you can become a mess.

Avoid feeling grouchy and overtired by taking some simple steps to ensure you get enough shuteye the night before.

? Go to bed at a suitable time that will afford you eight hours sleep and try to avoid scrolling through your phone until the early hours. As difficult as this may seem, it's important to remember that the light that comes from laptops and phones can cause you to have difficulty nodding off due to its stimulatory effect on the brain.

? If the sunlight wakes you up before it is time to wake, consider getting an eye mask or even black out curtains to keep your room as dark as possible.

? If you're finding that stress is keeping you awake at night, consider taking up journaling.

By writing down what is causing you worry, you might be able to rest easier,  as not only will writing your thoughts down help you keep them in perspective, the act alone can release stress and help you nod off.

#4 Creatine a routine

Trying to keep the time that you wake up each day consistent can make a huge difference to how you find getting out of bed each day.

routine

This is because our body clock can adapt to regular sleeping patterns, and you will find it much easier to get up each day if you try to keep your bedtimes and wake up times constant.

It is well worth avoiding extra long lie ins at the weekend if you can to maintain a regular pattern and make getting up during the week a bit more pleasant.

Try this out and you will see that the body adapts in no time!

#5 Get organised the night before

Waking up to the chaos of bad organisation is enough to get anyone’s day off on the wrong foot.

Take a few minutes the night before to do a bit of food prep, lay out your clothes and if you are planning to hit the gym in the morning, organise your gym bag.

This may seem like a chore the night before, but it makes all the difference the next morning when you can take a few minutes extra to eat your breakfast at your leisure and sip a coffee instead of running out a door in a frenzy then realising you have forgotten something.

The less stressful your morning is when you wake up, the happier you will be throughout the day.

Take Home Message

These are some simple tips that might make your morning a little bit more bearable.

If you are not a morning person by nature, try adding even a few of these things into your routine and see that mornings don’t have to be so bad after all!
