A classic intensely flinty fine Sauvignon from this classic French region. The finest plots in Sancerre are known for their Silex flint soils which encourage the minerality of this wine which infuses deliciously into the gooseberry and elderflower rich fruit turning to crisp cassis leaf which freshens the finish.
Domaine Gérard Fiou is located to the east of Sancerre in the village of Saint-Satur. This particular wine is from the estate’s ’le Grand Roc’ vineyard, where the 60 year old Sauvignon Blanc vines grow deep into the flinty ‘silex’ soils, which are farmed to lutte raisonée standards. The domaine was recently acquired by famed Sancerre house Henri Bourgeois, with winemaking overseen by Florent Bourgeois. To give added complexity a third of the wine was vinified in oak barrels, with maturation and battonage carried out over ten months.
