Slyfield and Sime - a Family Endeavor

The shop name, you ask? Simple - it's the maiden names of my maternal grandmother and great-grandmother, Nellie Slyfield and Helen Sime, two stalwart Scotswomen who remain with me in spirit, and always inspire me with their strength.
I'm also very inspired by the creativity of others, and especially by my children! I love the artwork they create, and I'm always amazed by it. I love making things, and the unpredictability of the creative process.
I also have a tremendous love for vintage and antique things that I've had for as long as I can remember. I have an eye for shiny things, and friends have told me that that I must be part crow, because I always like to gather and collect shiny things in my nest! Speaking of collections, I do have several: Japanese kokeshi dolls, Russian Matryoshka, vintage handbags, Pewabic Pottery tiles, and jewelry (shiny things!) just to name a few. It seems that my daughter is following in my footsteps in the collecting field!
I am perpetually inspired by the wonder of the natural world around me, and love campfires, nature walks, trees, wildlife, gardening, and being on the shores of Lake Michigan in the summer with my husband and children.
I have a masters degree in counseling, and I am proudly half Scottish and half Ukrainian - special greetings to all my Scot, Uke, and counselor peeps out there! Feel free to contact me - I'm excited to be a member of Etsy!
