Carnival season is here! These bright new handmade king cake earrings are the perfect addition to your Mardi Gras wardrobe! Great to wear for Mardi Gras, parades, visits to New Orleans or just for fun! I hand sculpt each king cake then use a mix of translucent and white clay to create the frosting look. Once the frosting is sculpted onto the dough, these bright translucent micro beads are meticulously added resembling the sprinkle decorations on king cakes. Then a bit of chalk pastel is added to create a baked looked on the dough. After they are baked, they are then coated with a clear glossy glaze on top to protect the beads and make them shine! These earrings are very lightweight. Only top quality posts and ear wires are used on these hand sculpted pieces!

The Mardi Gras or Carnival season officially begins on January 6th or the "Twelfth Night," also known to Christians as the "Epiphany." Epiphany comes from a Greek word that means "to show." Jesus first showed himself to the three wisemen and to the world on this day. As a symbol of this Holy Day, a tiny plastic baby is placed inside each King Cake (the edible king cakes, not these earrings for sale 😉).
The king cake tradition is thought to have been brought to New Orleans from France in 1870. A king cake is a ring shaped bakery delicacy, crossed between a coffee cake and a French pastry. It's decorated in royal colors of purple which signifies "Justice," green for "Faith," and gold for "Power." These colors were chosen to resemble a jeweled crown honoring the Wise Men who visited the Christ Child on Epiphany.

*Care and Cleaning of Polymer Clay Jewelry*
When not being worn, please store your jewelry in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid getting aerosol sprays, perfumes, or chlorinated water on the items, as they may discolor or deteriorate the finish. Keep away from sharp objects, as sharp metal may also scratch the surface of polymer clay. They are able to repel water but are neither waterproof nor dishwasher-safe. Gently pat dry with a cloth or paper towel, then air dry completely before storing. If your pieces are accompanied by metal components, they may tarnish over time. Special care must be taken when cleaning those items.
Please do not immerse your polymer items in liquid jewelry cleaners, as the chemicals in those may adversely affect the clay. A dry sheet of jewelry cleaner could very carefully be used to remove any tarnish from the metal components.
Enjoy your custom clay jewelry!
