La boheme
La boheme
Jonathan Miller’s classic production returns to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the director’s ENO debut.
When Mimì knocks at the door of four impoverished friends, Rodolfo answers and it’s love at first sight. Conducted by Alexander Joel, Puccini‘s moving score follows Mimì and Rodolfo’s love unfolding from its joyful beginnings to the heartbreak of her death.
Making their ENO debuts are Natalya Romaniw as Mimì and lyric tenor Jonathan Tetelman, singing the role of Rodolfo. With Nadine Benjamin as Musetta, David Soar as Colline and Harewood Artists Bozidar Smiljanic and Matthew Durkan sharing Schaunard, this Bohème promises to be an exceptional musical and theatrical treat.

Great production, sets and singers. It was also nice to see some children in the audience. Love, romance and tragedy embellished with humour.

Haven’t been to the Opera in ages and this was such a good reintroduction Great balance of humour and the usual opera sadness but well worth the viewing

Brilliant play, great performance. However the whole story feels more like a theatre piece than an Opera, compared to Tosca, La Traviata etc... Lacking a bit of a WOW factor despite the romantic story

Voices were not clear enough to hear the plot. Second make lead particularly was drowned out by the orchestra. Set brilliant, visual experience great.

I brought the children to their first opera. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The dress up option was popular with all and a fun start. Music was fantastic and the children enjoyed it. Thank you

The production was wonderful, great to hear such beautiful orchestration and singing. But that top balcony is very hot and airless and I actually fainted in the second half and had to be given first aid then go to A&E. Staff were wonderful but obviously it was a difficult experience.

We saw La Boheme on 14 February. The singing and acting from the main characters to all...was simply sublime. We loved the stage setting too. The Coliseum is a stunning building. Thank you for making our evening so tremendiously enjoyable. We haven't been to the ENO for a few years so look forward to visiting again soon 💕

What an amazing production of La Boheme! My husband and I went to see the performance on Valentines night and we were a bit unsure how an English speaking opera, so famous, would pan out. However, it was achieved brilliantly and we enjoyed every minute of it.

Having seen La Boheme several times, I feel this was the best production I’ve seen! I would have given it 5 stars but for the fact that at the beginning we felt the orchestra was a little loud & we had actually had trouble hearing the singing! Not a problem after a few minutes fortunately.

I entered the theatre and about 2 mins before starting the usher let people know they could move into the spare seats at the front.. I was upgraded which was lovely and doesn't happen at all theatres. The staff were so helpful and lovely. This was my first Opera and i recommend it! The set was excellent, singing and actors amazing... i will return Sung in English made it easy to understand plus surtitles . What a treat

My party were late by 13 minutes. On the door we were told this was not a problem and were shown to a room. Thinking we were going to be ushered in in a quiet moment we were left there with no explanation. I had to go and find someone to ask what was going on. There were no bars open and I had to beg a restaurant waiter for water. The opera itself had great sets and the understudy who was replacing the lead tenor warmed up in the second half. There were not enough staff to work the busy bars at interval and the thatre was too hot-they had turned off the aircon because it was too noisy. All in all I would not recommend this production.

The world’s favourite opera came to the Coloseum Theatre in London last night in an English National Opera production that showcased Natalya Romaniw’s ability to combine heartfelt emotion and soprano notes. The opera of young love extinguished in the face of illness and premature death is the thinnest of stories but a vehicle for the strongest of emotions. This was a night of such emotional strength that sections of the audience were tearful at the end. Entertainment yes but so much more.
