Discover the art of spinning your own yarn with our beginner-friendly kit featuring a drop spindle and luxurious alpaca fiber. Immerse yourself in the world of spinning with detailed, down-to-earth instructions that provide a solid foundation for mastering spinning techniques. The kit includes four ounces of alpaca top in four natural colors, along with illustrated instructions, and a drop spindle. Choose from Brown Mix and Gray Mix options.

Distinguishable from roving, alpaca top undergoes a combing process, resulting in a smooth and uniform preparation. Its strands are consistent in length and run parallel, enhancing the ease of spinning for a truly enjoyable experience.

This drop spindle has been handcrafted by David Shepherd of Shepherd's Woodworking. It is a well weighted, general purpose spindle, and at 1.25 ounces is a great beginner spindle. This spindle can be made into a top or bottom whorl just by moving the hook form the top to the bottom. This set up gives you the chance to try both a top and a bottom whorl spindle and use what ever style works best for you. A notch in the whorl helps keep your spun yarn in place. Each spindle is test spun for balance.

The length of the spindle is 10.75" and the diameter of the whorl is 2.5". The shaft is made from Poplar, the whorl is made from Baltic Birch, all grown and made in the USA. A sealer coat had been applied to ensure that the spindle is smooth.

Alpaca fiber is a soft, durable, luxurious and silky natural fiber. While similar to sheep’s wool, it is warmer, softer, not prickly, and is hypoallergenic. Alpaca is also naturally water-resistant.

Nicely balanced beginner's spindle; at 1.25 oz, it is a good starting weight. The included alpaca fiber is absolutely lovely. This is going to be a gift and I'm quite pleased with it. Shipping was very fast. The price was very good for what you get!

The drop spindle in the kit is nicer than I expected from the description…it seems nicely weighted and well made. The alpaca roving is amazingly soft and I love the colors.
