This simple baby afghan pattern is quick to crochet and is perfect for newborns of any gender. The beautiful stitch and lovely scalloped edge make this a great choice for a baby girl, but the simplicity of the design is well suited for baby boys, as well. Make it in any color to match your nursery decor!
I developed this pattern to make a baby blanket for my brother and sister-in-law who are expecting their first child. Because they are not planning to find out the gender before the baby is born, I needed to make something neutral for my future little niece or nephew, but I also wanted it to be beautiful and stylish.
Because I love the soft texture of 100% cotton yarn, I made this blanket out of Lily Sugar n' Cream yarn, but it can be worked in any worsted weight yarn in a variety of colors. The simplicity of the design allows for a great deal of versatility in the finished look and feel.
Finished blanket size: 36" x 36"
Skill level: Beginner
(You need to know how to do a chain, single crochet, and double crochet.)
