Summary

ITW Thriller Award winner

International Book Awards winner

Nina can never forgive Maggie for what she did. And she can never let her leave.

They say every house has its secrets, and the house that Maggie and Nina have shared for so long is no different. Except that these secrets are not buried in the past.

Every other night, Maggie and Nina have dinner together. When they are finished, Nina helps Maggie back to her room in the attic, and into the heavy chain that keeps her there. Because Maggie has done things to Nina that can’t ever be forgiven, and now she is paying the price.

But there are many things about the past that Nina doesn’t know, and Maggie is going to keep it that way - even if it kills her.

Because in this house, the truth is more dangerous than lies.

Where to start…

An absolutely superb psychological thriller by John Marrs. I read somewhere that this was going to be turned into a film. Well if so - even though I know what happens - I can’t wait!

The story of Nina and her mother Maggie is a must. I don’t want to write too much as I don’t want to spoil anything.

There are so many twists in this novel but it’s very easy to follow.

You must read this book if you like the genre or John Marrs. Highly recommend.

Marrs does it again

An enthralling book that only John Marrs can write. The story weaves a web that just throws you continuously. This is so satisfying and keeps you shaking your head when thrown another curve ball. Brilliant book from a supremely talented author. The narration fits the story perfectly.

Gripping story from start to finish

First book by John Marrs but definitely won’t be the last. Gripping storyline from start to finish. Filled with twists and turns, just when you think you know what’s happening you’d thrown off with another twist.

I started this book aiming to listen each day in my commute but was hooked from the start and read in just over one day 🤣
