I first stumbled upon used burlap coffee bags while living in London in 2011. The bold fonts and the striking graphics caught my eye from a vendor at Broadway Market and I bought a few. Their worn and rustic look was just my style and I started trying to figure out how to best display them in my flat. After a few weeks of talking with frame makers (and being turned away by the price), and experimenting with hanging them scroll-style, I came across a professional canvas stretcher at an art supply store near Brick Lane who was willing to teach me how to stretch the burlap bags across a wooden frame like an artist's canvas.
Friends and family complimented my framed coffee bags when they would come to visit me. They wanted me to make them some too! So, I started seeking out beautiful bags while visiting coffee roasters around London and framing them for gifts.
After moving back to Austin, Texas, I did not have time for the hobby, so I stopped for a few years. Recently I have picked it back up and want to share my creations with other fans of coffee, travel and handmade crafts.
Now, I source the jute (burlap) and straw bags from local specialty coffee roasters and love to give new life to the well-traveled and worn bags. Most have traveled thousands of miles carrying 150lbs of processed and dried green coffee from Central or South America, Africa or Indonesia to Central Texas.
