The Household Cavalry Museum London – Intro

Discover the history of the Household Cavalry and see their work brought to life before your eyes at the Household Cavalry Museum in London.

The Household Cavalry Museum London – Full Details

Located within Horse Guards in Whitehall, the Household Cavalry Museum is one of London’s most historic buildings dating back to 1750.

This living museum allows you the unique opportunity to see real troopers working with real horses doing their everyday jobs!

The whole experience is brought alive with first-hand accounts of the troopers' rigorous training, compelling personal stories, interactive displays and rare objects – many of which are on public display for the first time.

The Household Cavalry was formed in 1661 under the direct order of King Charles II and currently has two roles. As a mounted regiment they are part of the Royal Pageantry and guard Her Majesty The Queen at ceremonies and other occasions in London and across the UK. As an operational regiment they serve in armoured fighting vehicles around the world, including active units which are currently in Iraq and Afghanistan.

You’ll learn about the history of the Household Cavalry Regiment, also known as ‘the eyes and ears’ of the British Army, and discover the level of support each serving soldier in the regiment receives. You’ll also gain an insight into the dangers they face and see an example of the kit each trooper carries into battle.

You’ll have access to some of the original copies of text that soldier were required to read out before dispersing crowds and see recordings of soldiers in training taking their first horse ride.

Don’t miss seeing the daily Changing of the Queen’s Life Guard – a ceremony that has been carried out by the Household Cavalry for over 350 years!
