This course is aimed at those healthcare workers providing support to individuals who are suffering from, or affected by, stroke. It will help the learner to understand what stroke is, the wide-ranging effects it can have on individuals and the varying types of support available.

The course begins with a review of stroke related statistics and some important facts about stroke. The course then goes onto describe what happens when a stroke occurs and the three main types in detail.

What are the risk factors for stroke, which can be divided into two groups – modifiable and non-modifiable? Learn the acronym FAST for identifying stroke signs and symptoms.

Learn what you can do to help whilst waiting for the emergency services. Learn how healthcare professionals should work with individuals who have suffered stroke.

The course describes what treatments are recommended for the different types of stroke and more about the effects of stroke on the brain. Finally the course explores rehabilitation and professional support for individuals suffering from stroke.

    This online course consists of a series of pages in which an instructor will talk learners through the lesson material.
