I designed and printed these notebooks by hand in my studio in the Cotswolds, England on my vintage printing press. I was inspired by my favourite flower, the Hellebore, which blooms in the dead of winter bringing a subtle beauty to a usually fairly stark time of year.

I first started by making some loose sketches on paper and then developed one further using a calligraphy nib and ink. I then took time to explore various papers and card before settling on this beautiful, warm earthy tone and paired with a tonal ink colour which I mixed by hand. A metal printing plate was then etched with acid before I printed the front and back covers on my vintage letterpress along with (a lot of patience!) and a heap of heavy impression to achieve the beautiful, even deboss into the card.

I have recently been luckily enough to acquire a vintage punch and wire binding machine which I've used to punch the holes and bind these notebooks one at a time using a carefully selected bronze coloured metal wire.

The covers are very substantial and robust, over 1mm thick. The inner pages are a high quality 140gsm slightly textured cartridge paper.

I have included a first page of printed vellum which gives a little bit about the story and inspiration of the book.
