Video summary: The making of Mountain Man Shampoo & Body bar! Here we're making 128 bars in two slab molds. The batter on top turns bright orange from the honey! It eventually returns to normal after a few minutes, but it's a fun part of soap science! :)

All Natural, Palm-Free, Cold Process Soap

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by.

I make handmade all natural, palm oil free, cold process soap in small batches in my studio in Longmont, Colorado. All of my soaps are made completely from scratch using mainly olive oil and coconut oil. Since all my soaps are palm-oil free, I almost always include either cocoa butter or shea butter (or both) to harden my bars and add a lovely creaminess to the lather. My soaps don't always use the same ingredients, so you will find some that are tree-nut free (no shea butter or sweet almond oil) and others that are not. Most of my soaps are vegan, but I do make goat milk soaps and sometimes include honey or beeswax in my recipes. All of them are formulated to be very moisturizing and great for either the face or body.

I made the switch to all natural soaps after working with fragrance oils and synthetic colorants for over a year (you'll see that some of the soaps in my older reviews are not all natural). After a while, it became quite obvious that even though all my fragrance oils were phthalate-free, they were affecting me quite a lot in my soap studio, mainly giving me headaches or making me run out of the room from the strong scent! I slowly started switching all my scents over to essential oils and also decided to eliminate palm oil from all my soaps due to environmental concerns.

Every soap offered in my Etsy shop is 100% natural, meaning they are either unscented or scented with pure, high quality, essential oils and are either uncolored or colored with natural clay or plant-based colorants. I do not use fragrance oils, artificial colorants, micas, titanium dioxide, or any other synthetic ingredient. I have slowly removed all of these products from my soaps and have found that the simpler soaps are always my favorites.

My soaps are made from scratch with sodium hydroxide (lye), but contrary to what some people think, all soap is made with lye. You can't make soap without it! However, once the lye reacts completely with the oils, what you have is soap and naturally occurring glycerin. None of my soaps have any lye remaining in the final products.

Which soaps are vegan?

Nearly all our soaps are vegan! The exceptions are: Honey Lemon (contains honey and goat milk), Mountain Man (contains honey), Calming Lavender (contains goat milk), Orange & Bergamot (contains goat milk), and Goat Milk & Oatmeal (contains goat milk). All the rest of our soaps are vegan. Note that our lotion bars and lip balms contain beeswax.

Do you make your soap from scratch?

Yes! We make all our soaps in-house, from scratch. We use mainly olive oil in our soap, along with coconut oil, shea and/or cocoa butter, avocado oil, and castor oil. Some of our soaps contain other ingredients like avocado butter, rice bran oil, and sweet almond oil. Our soaps also typically contain a liquid other than water, such as aloe vera juice, coconut milk, coffee, or goat milk. We only use essential oils to scent our bars (no fragrances of any kind!) and our soaps are naturally colored with plant-based colorants and clays.

Do you use plastic packaging?

No! We don't use any plastic when we ship your soaps. Everything is wrapped in recycled/recyclable paper and you're always welcome to request no paper at all (including labels). In that case, we'll just put your naked bars in a box with some kraft paper for padding. Our soaps are wrapped in a paper band for labeling and then wrapped in recycled tissue paper for protection in transit.

Do you offer wholesale?

Are your soaps palm-oil free?

Yes! If you're looking for palm free soap, you've found your shop! All our products are free of palm oil.

Do you offer gift wrap?

Absolutely! In fact, ALL our packages look like a little gift when they arrive and we never include pricing information in any of our shipments. To make it extra special, make sure to add a gift note when you checkout, so your recipient knows who the gift is from!
